    Good News – Wow! – For Indonesian Religious Freedom!

    A rare victory for religious liberty in Jakarta, where Indonesia’s Constitutional Court last week issued a decision  to allow followers of indigenous faiths to state their beliefs on their national identity cards, or KTP…

    =

    =

    These cards are important, essential even, for they give citizens access to state services of every kind. Without them, life is more than arduous.

    So well done, the Constitutional Court.

     “… the word ‘religion’ on Article 61 [1] and Article 64 [1] of the Civil Administration Law contradicts the 1945 Constitution and is not legally binding.”      http://jakartaglobe.id/news/indonesias-constitutional-court-says-yes-indigenous-faiths/

    =

    =

    In place of the discriminatory articles, the justices have sensibly urged a new category – “believers of the faith,” or penghayat kepercayaan – in addition to the six officially recognized religions – Islam, Catholicism, Protestantism, Buddhism, Hinduism and Confucianism. –

    These kepercayaan creeds arguably deserve pride of place, not a mere additional status, because they pre-date the imported religions and have thousands of followers.

    They could have been listed alongside the other years ago, but I’ve read that even the iron regime of President Suharto…

    =

    =

    ….felt reluctant to risk the wrath of bigots who feared many of their theoretical followers would switch to kepercayaan..

    It always makes me wonder how strong a faith is, if its leaders are forever fretting that their flocks will desert them when given the chance.

    Islamist ‘Scholars’ Quail as ‘Christianisation’ Looms!

    However, there’s many a slip twixt cup and lip.

    The court’s recommendation is only that, and some fanatics in the administrative levels may drag their feet about implementing the ruling.

    And it would be a nice gesture to supplement this brave step towards fair play in matters of faith if President Jokowi could repeal the intolerant Tri-Ministerial Decree…

    =

    =

    …which is one of the most oppressive edicts ever issued. and has resulted in widespread persecution of the peaceful and inoffensive Ahmadi minority.

    However, I am not going to hold my breath on that one. If justice for Ahmadis caught on, there might even be fresh demands for a re-opening of the Cikeusik Pogrom case…

    ======

    Cikeusik, Banten Province, February 6th, 2011.

    Watch the pigs at their bloody work on this link..   http://www.liveleak.com/view.

    …when three brave men were murdered – martyred- for their Ahmadiyah religion by a mob of stinking cowards…

    ===

    Victim of Islamist Murder Mob Gets Six Months in the Slammer

    …and no murder charges were ever brought, despite a sickening video record of the entire vile episode.

    Nevertheless, this has to be welcomed, after a previous ruling from the same court that left intact the bizarre ‘blasphemy law.’

      Always nice to see you havent given up on Indonesia.
      I agree the court did well with this but I think youre right, who knows if the government officials will act on the ruling.
      Youre right too to keep raising the Cikeusik case but I have no hope those three murdered men will ever get justice..
      Dont let it go though..

    OMG! Islamist ‘Scholars’ Want Carpenter Punished – For His Name!

    Up early today, if you think 9am is early…

    =

    As every Indonesian knows, if you don’t have an official ID card, the KTP, your life is far from easy. Never mind you can’t vote – basic government services require its production at just about every level.

    Hence to take a man’s KTP away is a pretty savage blow!

    So why am I not at all surprised at the uptight MUI’s latest vindictive shrilling.

    .–

    Heboh Pria Bernama Tuhan: MUI Minta KTP-nya Ditarik...

    ======================

    The East Java chapter of the Indonesian Council of Ulemas (MUI) urged Banyuwangi authorities on Monday to revoke the identity card of a carpenter named Tuhan (which means God in Indonesian) so that he could not access any public services until he changed his name.

    What an obnoxious demand to make! It’s none of these ‘scholars’ business what name a man goes by.

    Nor the Government’s.

    In Latin countries, there are loads of guys named Jesus.

    When we watched Rawhide as kids, religious sensitivities were safeguarded by those who compiled the credits at the end of the weekly Western tv show, by the simple expedient of spelling it ‘Hey-Soos.’

    —–

     ‘Hey-Soos’ (Robert Cabal)

    Rowdy, Pete, Quince, and Hey Soos are captured by a band of Cheyennes…Rawhide Season 4 Full Episode 5 – Lost Tribe – YouTube

    But the cowpoke’s name was Jesus, and no plans were ever proposed to burn any of his numerous real-life namesakes at the stake for bearing the same name as the Son of God. Nor to grab his social security card, or his ability to apply for a driving licence, or to get married!

    We ‘WASPs’ might have regarded those Latino Jesuses as a bit OTT, but only an arch-bigot would seek to deny such hombres essential health, education or welfare services.

    But in East Java?

    Among the ‘Scholars?’

    ===============

    • Arch-bigots? Aaah, well…

    East Java MUI chairman Abdusshomad Bukhori said it was not ethical for a person to choose Tuhan as a name for a human being. “[He should] add something before or after the name, or better yet, change his name,” Abdusshomad said as quoted by kompas.com.

    Entitled to offer the man advice, maybe…but then to demand the authorities intimidate him!?!

    Yet once we see Bukhori is the niggler in the woodpile, we need hardly read on.

    This MUI fanatic used to grace our blog posts time and again, sometimes due to his kill-joy mentality  –

    • ….but much more seriously because of his rancid intolerance.

    “If the governor is pleased, MUI propose that the Shia doctrine be also prohibited like the Ahmadis in East Java. Regulation 55/2012 was set up in general, there is no specific sentence on Shia,” East Java MUI chairman KH Abdusshomad Buchori told reporters at the office of the Governor of East Java after a meeting of the scholars’ Ulama Board  Pesantren Madura (Basra) with Deputy Governor Gus Ipul, Tuesday (10/23/2012).

    This old fanatic seriously think religious dissent should be OUTLAWED!

    And he doesn’t even believe in allowing others to discuss his outfit’s bigotry.

    Happy Idul Fitri – But NOT for Persecuted Minority!

    Very quiet today, and yesterday, and would be quieter still without my visitor, who dismounted the busway only to find the office complex through which one normally passes has had its back gate locked, presumably for the Idul Fitri holiday, though the front is open wide!

    Never mind, my guests are a resourceful bunch. Brunch is being prepared.

    But the sense of ease we are enjoying here in Jakarta is not likely shared by Indonesia’s most oppressed minority. the peaceful and utterly inoffensive Ahmadis.

    Viva.co.id -reports today that a decent Muslim MP from th PKB party is investigating the latest reports of bigot bureaucrats denying them basic civil rights in West Java.

    The Kuningan district of that benighted province has long been the scene of disgusting intolerance, sometimes by the IslamoNazi thug gang, the FPI, and also by the ghastly governor, whose charming Hitlerian wish for the dissenters to be ‘disappeared’ we reported two years ago.https://rossrightangle.wordpress.com/2013/05/08/adolf-hitler-if-the-jews-disappear-the-problem-disappears/

    I certainly have no plans to convert to even the Ahmadi version of Islam, but the fact is they are GOOD people. I just watched their American spokesman on tv, reminding us that in their hundred year history, Ahmadis have never produced a single sectarian terrorist.

    They don’t display that nauseating disloyalty we see in cases like Fort Hood’s traitor Nidal, or the filthy scum who beheaded Britain’s brave soldier in Woolwich. On the contrary –

    =============================================

    • royal_wedding_ahmadiyya

    =======================================

    • Ahmadis here are good people too, but here they get martyred by swine like those in the photo below, at Cikeusik in 2011.

    “There needs to be discussion with the Minister, the MUI and the Ahmadis,”‘ says the PKB legislator, Yanuar Prihatin, who expects the government to serve every citizens, regardless of creed.

    Warga Ahmadiyah di Kuningan Kesulitan Dapat KTP

    He reckons the obstacle is the ridiculous ‘religion’ column in the KTP. But he doesn’t suggest the obvious solution, its eradication.

    Well, the Minister of Religious Affairs has so far seemed a massive improvement on his fanatic predecessor, but the MUI?

    =

    fatwa mui sholeh

    ====================

    C’mon, Yanuar, you know as well as everyone else in Indonesia that the self-styled ‘scholars’ of the MUI are among the most intolerant people in the land. How can Yanuar sensibly expect their help in solving the problem.

    These Dark Agers refuse to accept the Ahmadis are Muslim. The Ahmadis say they are, but the MUI just can’t stand any contradiction to their dogmatic definition. They cower from debate with dissenters – instead they call the cops, who regrettably all too often collaborate in the MUI’s vendetta against religious liberty.

    Cops – “Islamist ‘Scholars’ Can Veto Religious Liberty”

    By way of contrast, look at the Indonesian Protestant community. Like Protestants everywhere, they comprise a wide variety of denominations, Baptists, Presbyterians, Calvinists, Adventists, the whole disputatious range. Not one of them seeks to deny any of the others the right to list their creed on the KTPs.

    Why would they?

    Top ‘Scholar’ Warns of Red Peril – If ID Cards Omit Your Creed!

    anti_communism_by_leandrotr

    There are probably few bloggers more anti-communist than I am. And I do focus on the comsymp elements here in Indonesia, notably in the English-language media.

    Jakarta Post – Never Miss a Chance to Re-Hab Reds!

    Jakarta Globe Promotes PKI Sympathiser’s Propaganda!

    But I don’t reckon there’s any clear and present danger, not the way there was in 1965, when the totalitarian hypocrites of the PKI, Communist Party of Indonesia, staged their attempted kudeta.,

    ————————————————————-

    • pkiposter
    • —————-

    That happily failed, but sparked a nationwide blood-bath, many victims of which were poor uneducated workers and peasants gulled into PKI fronts by unscrupulous marxist propaganda.

    ==============

    But I had to laugh out loud when I read the outburst from Amidhan, Chairman of the state-sponsored Islamist ‘scholars’ outfit, the MUI.

    • ——————————-
    • Amidhan-MUI-2011 Amidhan

    ——————-

    He was addressing a meeting in Bekasi (one of the most fanatic-dominated areas in the country ) and warned his audience that there was a new-style communist threat to the country.

    And what signs had he discerned to support his fears?

    “It is no exaggeration to say we should be wary of this talk of the elimination of the religion column in the ID card…”

    Huh?

    Yeah, he actually said that! He’s alarmed that non-religious people, atheists, would also be allowed…”.

    Allowed…like, uh, somebody who happens to be atheist or agnostic should not be allowed to have an ID card (which here is essential for many purposes)  or does he recognise that everyone has the right to an ID card but expects that non-religious people should have to lie and pretend they are religious?

    In fact, we’ve covered the ID card issue before…

     https://rossrightangle.wordpress.com/2013/11/29/indonesias-religious-liberty-forced-to-id-as-islam-to-get-a-job/

    ——————-

    • freedom-of-religion
    • ———————————–
    • …and while atheists might have problems, there’s a lot more of a problem with the shameful discrimination against Indonesian religions, the old creeds of the archipelago, not the imported ones like Islam, Buddhism or Christianity.
    • There was a terrible fuss back in the 1970s when Javanese kepercayaan, traditional mysticism, almost got the status of religion and could have been listed on citizens’ ID cards –  sectarian crackers were scared their flock might desert in droves!
    • —–.
    • Sad to say, given previous MUI rants – Indonesia’s Arrogant Islamists – “Non-Denominational Belief Is Not a Religion!”    – it does seem as if the so-called ‘scholars’ believe the ‘godless’ have no right to enjoy any rights of citizenship.
    • —————
    • Iniquitous, of course, as bizarre as the notion that because some folks are not ‘religious,’ they must be Reds.
    • There was much more to Amdihan’s harangue, naturally, but it is even less persuasive than this ID card tripe.
    • If you feel like reading it, use Google Translate on this link to the Islamist site – http://www.hidayatullah.com/berita/nasional/read/2015/06/03/70996/kebangkitan-komunis-gaya-baru-dan-aliran-sesat-dinilai-bukan-lelucon.html  – which is about the only one that seems to have covered it.

    Irate Islamist Fuhrer Demands Blank ID Cards!

    Good old Rimanews.com again, a source of interesting reports, tells us that the Fuhrer of the IslamoNazi FPI (self-styled ‘Defenders of Islam’) is beside himself at the Minister of Home Affairs, Tjahjo Kumolo.

    If I had the remotest interest in Der Fuhrer’s well-being, I’d be concerned for him, so often is he in a state if rage and fury – such stress is bad for any man.

    But Muhammad Rizieq Shihab (aka Habib Rizieq, who stepped down last year but seems to have bobbed up again!) has a new bee in his Arabesque white bonnet this week – ID cards!

    This is hardly a new controversy. It’s been covered before, right here on RRA, notably when we recorded another IslamoNazi’s outrage.

    One of their most unpleasant intolerants, Munarman, hit a logical nadir when he said it was “stupid, linking the religion column in the ID card with the practice of one’s religion.

    He was reacting to the neat point scored by Jakarta Govenor Ahok, who’d noted that corrupt officials who had their religion listed on ID cards merely brought their religion into disrepute.  http://www.thejakartaglobe.com/news/jakarta/basuki-rejects-faith-status-on-ids/

    But there’s another aspect, that of the sectarian bigotry entrenched in local government administration against religious minorities.  https://rossrightangle.wordpress.com/2013/11/29/indonesias-religious-liberty-forced-to-id-as-islam-to-get-a-job/

    Do I hear readers chorus ‘NUTS!’

    ————

    e-KTP-contoh

    ————–

    We did get some more sense on the subject from Ahok, who pointed out that even ‘Malaysia Truly Arabia’ doesn’t force sectarianism on its citizens via their ID cards – so why should Indonesia?.

    00000000000000

    There’s no need for any mention of creed on the KTP (that’s the Indonesian term for these identity cards people need to do just about anything.)

    So if the story is accurate, all credit to Tjohjo – amid a sea of disappointments, it’s good to note that at least one ministry is prepared to use common sense even at the risk of angering jihadist jerks.

    But actually it sounds like it may or may not be really on the cards!

    Much ado about nothing?

    We’ll see.

    But what little notion of rational debate ever tinged FPI thinking has clearly drifted altogether away, given the fanatic fuhrer’s concluding blast at Tjohjo’s reform.

    “If the reason for removing the religion column in the ID card is the” Potential for Discrimination,” then simply make ID cards without Gender, Date of Birth, Address…even without a name…            So create a blank ID card!”

    http://nasional.rimanews.com/politik/read/20150414/207140/Beredar-Formulir-KTP-Tanpa-Kolom-Agama-FPI-Desak-DPR-Panggil-Tjahjo

    He is planning to look to the DPR (Parliament) to subvert Tjahjo’s great leap forward.

    The sad thing is, he may not be disappointed!.

    Indonesia’s Arrogant Islamists – “Non-Denominational Belief Is Not a Religion!”

    e-KTP-contoh

    ==========

    Interesting to see that it’s Ma’aruf Amin who’s being quoted on behalf of the MUI, the Indonesian Council of ‘Scholars,’ in the debate on the KTP, the ID document which every Indonesian must carry.

    =

    ma'arruf amin Ma’aruf Amin

    =

    Ma’aruf, you’ll recall, is the enlightened figure who told us that female circumcision is a ‘human right.’   http://www.thejakartaglobe.com/home/rights-groups-push-for-female-circumcision-ban/566823  That barbaric custom is still widely practiced here.

    “Circumcision hopefully will make her less amorous…” Islamist Ignorance Targets Tots

    However, he has agreed that citizens should be free to leave the KTP’s ‘religion’ column blank.

    Many of us might think that religion is a personal thing, nothing to do with the state,  but never mind, a teeny-weeny step towards religious liberty for the people of this wonderful land, after being forced for decades to fill in the column with one of the six religions.    http://www.thejakartapost.com/news/2014/11/14/ulema-council-wants-keep-religion-column.html

    But don’t start the cheering too soon.

    The MUI man went on to say his fellow-countrymen should not be allowed to enter their religion in the column if they don’t follow one of those six state-approved faiths.

    Why not?

    “A non-denominational belief is not a religion so it should not be stated in the religion column,” said Ma’ruf.

    Ma’aruf must certainly have a hot-line to God if he and his ‘scholar’ colleagues feel they can determine that minority faiths are NOT religions. But it’s up to them what they believe about mankind’s relationship with the Almighty. I’d be the last to deny them their right to think and worship as they see fit.

    A pity they don’t take the same view.

    They’ve been the most vociferous cheer-leaders for discriminatory state action against the inoffensive Ahmdiyah minority, and others who don’t share their dogmatic beliefs. They expressed approval of the infamous Tri-Ministerial Decree which has been invoked by vicious Islamist bigots as justification for sealing, and stealing, houses of worship belonging to Ahmadis.

    oooooooo

    masjid-ahmadiyah-depok These Ahmadis were prevented from further prayers in their Depok, West Java, mosque by a simple step – the local authorities expropriated the whole building! Just like Communists, these sectarians!

    =======================

    The endless persecution has even seen murder, the foul Cikeusik Pogrom.  of 2011, where three innocent men were martyred by a mob of savages.

    ========================

    • ahmadiyah2 Bigot pig at work in Cikeusik
    • ===================
    • The subsequent trial, when a handful of scumbags were put away for on average six months each (along with an Ahmadi who survived the atrocity!) showed the world how flimsy freedom of religion really can be, sadly.
    • ==================

    Of course, Pak Ma’aruf doesn’t endorse violence.

    =

    Amidhan-MUI-2011 Amidhan

    =

    Nor does his senior MUI colleague Amidhan.

    As was made clear a couple of Ramadhans ago, when he spoke about Islamist thug raids on mini-markets that did not kow-tow sufficiently to the intolerance prevalent at that time of year. Amidhan has no time for thuggery, but if shop-keepers dare display indifference to the sectarian demands of the MUI…

    Islamist ‘Scholars’ – “Don’t Complain if You’re Attacked!”

    The new Minister of Religious Affairs, Lukman, has shown refreshing readiness to respect Ahmadi and other minority creeds’ rights – there are, after all, nearly ten million Indonesians not affiliated with ‘approved’ religions – and that’s great.

    Will the MUI now inch into the modern world and insist to their followers that it is every citizens’ duty to take a stand for religious liberty and prevent the shameful assaults, arson and closures inflicted on these peaceful people?
