A Million-Strong Fanatic Mob In Jakarta Today?

Believe it or not, but, eager to ward off the pandemical gloom, I was planning to shop for tinsel today.

Putting up the tree early is a small but hopefully effective way to counteract the Chinese Virus’s depressive impact, which even gets my cheerful self down now and then!

Tinsel’s not hard to get even in minimarts but I like going into town, mingling with other people on the TransJakarta buses…

Take the bus, don’t contribute to traffic jams!

….enjoying a stroll down those still relatively new broad sidewalks on Sudirman.

Not everybody is WFH so although the city centre is not as crowded as once it was, it’s a helluva lot more congenial that the lonesome streets of my komplek.

However, according to at least some of the Indonesian media, there may actually be intense congestion downtown…THIS VERY MORNING!

I refer to a report on the summons delivered by police to Rizieq the Fanatic.

The Fanatic Returns! Indonesian “Scholar” Offers Warm Welcome!

    • FPI ‘grand imam, Habib Rizieq, who condemned Jakarta’s then-Governor Ahok for unacceptably quoting some Koranic verse –.
    • We encourage the government to process the death penalty for Ahok as soon as possible,” said Rizieq
    •  http://www.suara.com/news/2016/10/14/134313/
    • 0000000000000

I could write about his antics every day, but frankly it’s wearisome. He has no small opinion of himself, and one’s increasingly reluctant to feed his ego.

However, if it’s true that the summons requires him to present himself at Polda Metro Jaya ( city police HQ)

    …at 10am today…

    Polda Metro

…and it seems to be so, as the Okezone report features a photo of the summons, then it MAY also be true that he will be accompanied by a MILLION ranting sectarian fanatics.

At least so says Rizieq’s faithful follower, Novel Bamukmin, Deputy Secretary General of the Alumni Brotherhood (PA) 212!

We have noticed Novel often over the years, even before he demonstrated his Islamic supremacism and his sexism with that famous quote…

Novel has featured here before, for enlightened statements which bring such credit to his cause.

“…women already have limitations, let alone non- Muslims!”

….and not to forget his charming riposte to the beautiful Nikita Mirzani.

….whose witty jibes against Rizieq have been delighting the citizenry for weeks..

If she doesn’t apologise, I take no responsibility for mayhem on the part of Muslims who are Habib devotees.’

Novel says that Rizieq’s fans will show up too, from all regions and that can whiten Polda Metro Jaya..”

    An odd choice of words.

Will the fanatics bring brushes and paint and do some honest toil, refurbishment of the cop-shop?

    That’ll be the day!

It’s more likely a reference to the white uniforms that Rizieq’s FPI vigilante gang sport…

…on their sectarian raids and parades.

Novel predicts that if Habib Rizieq attended the summons by Polda Metro Jaya, millions of people would also attend to escort him.

So should we believe Novel’s boast?

If a million of those white-shirts did appear, the main north-south artery would be clogged for miles, all the way from Blok M in the south to Kota in the north.

I can imagine trying to squeeze through, on my way to Grand Indonesia mall.

Excuse me, chaps, can I get by, please….’

..’I need to buy some Christmas decorations!’

But in fact, I suspect Novel’s prediction may not be put to the test.

Rizieq and his crew tend to regard themselves as above the law. The summons is related to alleged violations of the virus rules.

The Fanatic may simply decide to send his lawyer with a doctor’s note!

I like that you can joke about your shopping but I have newly watched the tv news and I think the fanatics did not want to come out on this hot day
There is no news about Rizieq obeying the police summons.

Bravo Nikita! Sexy Star Faces Fanatic Mob Threat!

It must be darn near eight years since I first applauded the beautiful actress Nikita Mirzani…

Yes, THAT Nikita Mirzani, and there’s my fave photo of the ‘controversial’ movie star, the one I used when first she stood up to the intolerants in Indonesia.

…and now she’s back in the news for much the same thing, incurring the wrath of fanatics.

South Jakarta Police have ordered extra patrols near her home, for fear of mob attack by sectarian louts!

The case began when Nikita Mirzani commented on the return of Habib Rizieq, the ‘grand imam’ of the Islam Defenders Front, the FPI…

Her comment was dismissive of the extremist leader…

    • FPI ‘grand imam Habib Rizieq who suggested the Christian Governor Ahok be slain for unacceptably quoting some Koranic verse –.We encourage the government to process the death penalty for Ahok as soon as possible,” said Rizieq
    •  http://www.suara.com/news/2016/10/14/134313

The Fanatic Returns! Indonesian “Scholar” Offers Warm Welcome!

..and she referred to him as a tukang obat.

Tukang is a common word here.

I buy my vegetables from a tukang sayur. A carpenter is a tukang kayu, a gardener is a tukang kebon – so it is not at all derogatory.

Hence when used with obat, medicine, it depends on who gets called what, I suppose. I’ve been called much worse names than tukang obat, ‘medicine man,‘ as Google Translate renders it.

I postponed publishing this till my ever-welcome Indonesian visitor came by today, so that I might seek further clarification.

Now I’m advised tukang obat can also mean what Americans 100 years ago used to call a snake-oil salesman.

Okay, hardly flattering, but there are many harsher names to call people.

    Like ‘banci!’

As in Rizieq’s insult to then President SBY, quoted in Tribunnews.com 30.7.2011, when the FPI were raging against religious liberty, driven by their hatred of the peaceful Ahmadi minority.

“If SBY won’t dissolve Ahmadiyah, SBY is a banci!” bhttp://jakarta.tribunnews.com/2011/07/30/habib-rizieq-banci-kalau-sby-tidak-bubarkan-ahmadiyah

    And what are bancis?

The transvestite freaks that prowl the canal bank downtown at night, offering entertainment and more to interested passers-by.

Very unflattering, to be likened to those!

However, it seems that Rizieq is most upset at Nikita’s mild epithet. His lawyer has threatened to report Nikita to the police!

Such sensitive souls, some of these deeply religious persons.

Some of you will remember FPI notable Novel Bakmunin, famed for his tolerance.…

Novel has featured here before, for enlightened statements which bring such credit to his cause.

“…women already have limitations, let alone non- Muslims!”

….and here’s what he had to say, a day or so ago.

If she doesn’t apologise, I take no responsibility for mayhem on the part of Muslims who are Habib devotees.’

One might hope any responsible citizen, especially those in public life, would seize the opportunity to call on everyone to behave like grown-ups, not tantrum brats.

For her part, Nikita declared she is unafraid and had supporters herself whom she could count on.

I’ll bet she has LOTS of supporters!

Tempo further reports that it wasn’t long before a Rizieq fan named Maaher warned that he could raise a mob of 800 to lay siege to Nikita’s home, were no apology forthcoming within 24 hours.

I can certainly understand if Muslims are upset by insults to their Prophet.

But us mere humans, once past adolescence, normally learn to handle harsh comments on ourselves without resort to gangster tactics.

If you’re a public figure, as Rizieq is, one gets called names. Most can take that in their stride.

But he isn’t fond of criticism, and the FPI is notorious not only for bloodthirsty threats…

    …but also for violence…

…though it’s fair to say that, when they don’t outnumber their targets…

    fpi skulk in mosque

IslamoNazis V Freedom-Fighters? – Some Chicken, Some Neck

…the extent of their true valour is interesting to examine.

And it isn’t, of course, just the FPI – there are plenty of malevolent street rabble here, as in many another country, such as the marxist BLM scum in the USA…

    Foul-Mouths Menace 77-Year-Old, Screaming ‘F His Wife!’

….to whom besieging and terrorising those they perceive as vulnerable, might seem a beguiling way to pass their mindless time.

One hopes that, if they show up to menace Nikita, the police will show no hesitation about teaching them a lesson in manners.

      Just what the doctor ordered!
Or should we say the tukang obat!
This is vintage Ross blogging and after showing it to interested people, everybody agrees.
      We need more of it.
The stories in local media are worrying.
Who was it coined the word ‘Irandonesia?’

      You dont disappoint!
I thought when you said you would get onto the blog about Nikita soon we would wait a week, but this is very good work that you have done and very fast, too.
If this continues, I don’t mean Nikita, I mean the Rizieq phenomenon, you and I could l be the only foreigners left here.

Jakarta Boycott Reality Check? Ask Fadli, Caught Smiling With Trump!

Presumably not many fanatical Islamists go shopping at the Galerie Lafayette (there is a branch here in Jakarta) but then neither do I, though I have wandered in while waiting for friends in town.

Most department stores here are staffed by cuties…

…so it makes more sense to admire them than hang about in some expensive coffee-shop!

I don’t know how many of the items on sale are imported from France, but if they are, they’ll be out of my price league anyway, and probably that’s about the only thing I have in common…

…with those who went shuffling along on the very short ‘Long March’ a few years ago!

Beware! Very Short Fanatic ‘Long March,’ Jakarta, This Friday!

That’s the problem the extremists will encounter on their proposed ‘boikot’ of French goods, their notion of retaliation for the welcome, if belated…

.Macron Man – ‘Dissolve Enemies of France’ – Why Only Now?

…moves by Macron in the wake of the brutal sectarian atrocity in Paris two weeks ago.

Harsh reality check for Islamists, but as the headline in one Indonesian newspaper reminded them…

Rich people who are fans of luxury brands don’t necessarily want to boycott French products

But interesting to read on and be unsurprised that it’s not only the FPI notable, Habib Novel Bamukmin, a regular subject of concern in my pages…

Novel has featured here before, for enlightened statement which bring such credit to his cause.   – “women already have limitations, let alone non- Muslims!” http://megapolitan.kompas.com/read/2013/10/26/1937287/.FPIMenolak.Lurah.Susan.Harga.Mati

Jakarta Facing Another Fanatic Friday – and Thursday…and Besok?

….who’s being shrill for a boycott. He’s been a busy fellow over the years….

FPI leader Habib Novel on trial for violent protest,

There’s somebody else we have mentioned over the years, who holds a senior position in the DPR ( parliament) a certain Fadli Zon, who has also joined in the boycott chorus.

    Hasil gambar untuk fadli zon

Fadli Zon, who previously distinguished himself when he criticized the military’s decision to strip Lebak military commander of his post for recruiting the FPI in Banten to take the training recently, calling the decision “regrettable”.

Mr. Fadli Zon is undoubtedly rich – he’s a senior politician, after all! – and could surely ask around his equally rich colleagues if they, or their wives and daughters, will shun French imports.

He’s not a man I have much time for.

We covered Fadli’s declaration of ‘open house’ at the Indonesian Parliament buildings a couple of years ago.

The Deputy Speaker was eager to offer accommodation to Islamist extremists who’d come into Jakarta for the fanatic demo which ended in shocking violence that awful Friday night.

Will Fadli Open ‘The People’s House” To Jakarta’s Homeless?

We asked if he would be equally hospitable to people who genuinely need somewhere to sleep, like Jakarta’s homeless.

I didn’t expect a response, nor did I get one.

But now I am reminded of an even more pressing case that ought to stir Fadli’s charitable instincts, namely, those Ahmadi refugees.

Fadli Zon justified his offer to let intolerant extremists sleep over in the House of Representatives by saying it’s the ‘house of the people.’

The plight of the Ahmadis remains dire.

Petisi – Kebebasan Beragama! Freedom Of Religion!

But my overseas readers will maybe be more interested in another photo of Fadli Zon we used around that time, which I’d forgotten all about!

Hasil gambar untuk fadli zon trump candidate

According to the Deputy Chairman of Gerindra, the meeting was only limited to friendship. As a future president and also a businessman, Trump is a friend of Indonesia. Fadli even said he had taken a photo with Trump in a selfie and asked for an autograph.  http://en.metrotvnews.com/read/2015/09/04/427845/meeting-with-donald-trump-fadli-zon-said-that-it-all-spontaneous

      A timely reminder!
Did you find any luxury French products at Superindo on your last shopping trip?
      No? I didnt think so.
You’ll have to travel to Kemang, Ross.
