Oscar Effluent – Glad I Gave Up After 20 Mins!

Why ‘The Power of the Dog’ should win the best picture Oscar

Jane Campion’s uncompromising, uneasy 1920s drama delivers a career-best performance by Benedict Cumberbatch and marks a victory for queer films at large

I had no idea who or what Benjamin Lee, who penned that off-putting stuff, might be!

Maybe just a normal Guardian pinko creep, or something worse?

But it turns out he’s their ‘east coast arts editor,’ another opinionated geezer, like you or me, but, unlike you or me, whose views on the merits of a movie we are meant to swallow.

Happily, today, I was talking on the phone to somebody far away whose opinion does matter (to me) and who likes going to the cinema, and whose ideological outlook does not invariably align with mine.

Like me, she accessed Netflix and had managed to watch 20 minutes of that damn ‘Dog,’ picture before switching off, over-powered by boredom.

    ZZZZZ…

Lady Gaga hingga Youn Yuh Jung Bakal Jadi Presenter Oscar 2022

For my part, before I looked for it on Netflix, I’d heard it was a ‘Western,’ but it clearly had nothing in common with real Westerns….

    .

    .

….those grand films that starred John Wayne, or Clint Eastwood or even the late great Ronald Reagan, though he was much better in politics than cinema, IMHO.

    .

    Needless to say…

… I’d no idea it focused on sexual deviancy.

Had I been aware of THAT, I’d never have started watching it.

Who wants to see maladjust movies?

And now it’s won an Oscar?

    .

    .

    IMHO, it never would have….

….if the actual viewing public had a vote.

Bulger Murderers? Sign At Least One Of The Petitions!

It is of course disgusting that anyone would make a film which attempts to ‘humanise’ the two scumbags who murdered little Jamie Bulger.

Far better had they been euthanised!

I had to use Google Search to find the petition –

    https://www.change.org/p/the-oscars-stop-the-james-bulger-movie-from-being-shown-and-taken-off-the-oscars-short-list

Interestingly, there were more than one and although some merely duplicated the one above, which needs just a few more names to reach 200,000…

Image result for bulger petition venables change.org

James was snatched by Jon Venables and Robert Thompson outside of a butcher’s shop in Bootle after his mother briefly went inside. The pair then sexually abused and tortured James and the infant’s body was found mutilated on a railway line in Walton, Liverpool, two days later. They were found guilty of murder in November 1993 and were imprisoned until 2001, when they turned 18-years-old.

Venables and Thompson were given taxpayer-funded new identities on release but that didn’t stop Venables from going on to reoffend – he is currently serving a 40-month sentence for possession indecent images of children. https://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/932227/jon-venables-now-petition-james-bulger-killer-release

… there were a couple calling for the authorities to name and shame the evil pair, ludicrously given new identities and at least one of them has reportedly re-offended – Jon Venables, for possession of child pornography.

    Have a look –

      Total agreement, mate.
Very few people will ever forget that crime.
      Poor little Jamie.
      They deserved to die.

I intend to sign all of them.
Neither of that pair should ever have got out of prison and normal people should have the right to know what’s living next door or round the corner from them.

      Monsters!
I remember that and I remember being shocked when they released them after I think something like 15 years. It was so unjust. I also seem to remember that European Court got involved, on the side of the killers, as you might expect
I will sign that petition and will read the others too.
