Soekarno-Hatta From PIM? Could Be Handy!

When going to and from my Christmas/New Year break, I was taken aback by the changes at Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta Airport,  a huge new building…

…which I assumed to be the terminal for the just-started rail-service between downtown and the airport,  obstructing my view of the big Garuda statue.

That mighty monument met my gaze when first I came to this city, not far off twenty years ago. and I always feel I’ve made it home when I emerge from the arrivals hall and find it waiting there.

Same with the lights, if it’s a night flight, for my first landing was quite late, and the city looked like a starry lake from the descending plane. At least they can’t be obscured – except by pollution!

But time brings changes and one must adapt.

    Never mind, mere musing.

I won’t get into the new train service from Sudirman to the airport, as I haven’t yet used it.

Here’s a Jakarta Globe link. Soekarno-Hatta Airport Launches Sky Train

But I want also to provide a link to a Jakarta Post report on a bus service for South and West Jakarta residents who have a plane to catch.

Airport bus service available at Pondok Indah Mall

Good idea, having buses from Pondok Indah Mall and Mal Taman Anggrek.

PIM is easy to reach on the TransJakarta Busway, as is MTA.

But I am home now, and getting back into the social whirl.

No planes out for me, not for many months, I hope.

Pondok Indah Mall, Books on Sale! Till 26th June?

Got back from an outing to PIM not long ago, and have to report that Periplus book store has some bargains this week and next.

    ooooooooooooooo

    PIM -Pondok Indah Mall

    —-

In fact the shop assistant who served me said the discounts would last till 26th June!

I got two paperbacks, one being Stephen King’s ‘Dome’ which was originally priced at over Rp.100,000, and another, by a lesser known author, again marked above Rp.100k.

There were stickers attached telling would-be buyers they were now Rp.41,000 and Rp.38,000 respectively.

    oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

    • ================================
    • A good buy, by anyone’s standards!
    • But when I took them over to the cashier, I was delighted to learn that the sale meant ANOTHER 50% reduction, so I only had to pay the princely sum of Rp.40,000 for the two of them!

So get yourselves on down there to Periplus, while it lasts.

BANYAK Cewek Cantik! Fashiontastic, PIM, Jakarta, 7 – 17th April

Another search today for my current Holy Grail, this time down Jalan Panjang, West Jakarta, looking for some helpful computer person to help me instal my Kapersky anti-virus disk.

There’s no slot in my laptop, so how does one insert the disk!

Hence by Busway, to Pondok Indah.

    ………..

PIMMall_culture_jakarta100 PIM by night – I went by day.

    ——

Alas, posh PIM mall, so the pretty things on the info desk assured me, has NO computer stores eecept Electronc City, who in turn assured me they had nobody there who could assist.

Further disappointment awaited me in Hero supermarket, no Mama’s Pork Bacon, which I like best, despite its brand name reminding me of Mama Stasi Merkel, Germany’s arch-traitress!

    oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

‘Woe is me – I can’t get my Kapersky installed!’

Alone and palely loitering, like the knight-at-arms in Keats’ poem, I wandered across the footbridge, to the new section of the mall, hoping there might be somewhere there to turn to.

    There wasn’t!

    Bad news…

But hold on there! Going out is never a bad idea in Jakarta, because something interesting always happens.

    Loud-speaker voices, music…

    ——-

    ooooooooooooooooooooo

    A parade of yummy chicks!

One after the other, striding gracefully down a cat-walk!

And unlike the scrawny whelps who proliferate in Western fashion shows, these were healthy, normal, very attractive gals…

    …………..

    silhouetee

    —————-

… especially the one clad in a short, white, tight dress who was – in my view – the star of the line-up, at least around noon today, Saturday.

    And it’s not just girls.

There were also men’s and kids’ fashions on display, but I did not linger for those. I don’t have any interest in dressing fashionably and with offspring full-grown, none either in children’s clothing.

But if I need to meet up with friends next week, or any time before 17th April, my favoured rendezvous point will be PIM.

Viva Hacienda! An Excellent Place at PIM, Jakarta!

A slow start today, but thankfully a gorgeous day, hot sunshine in which I’m lounging in languorous manner, after a day out yesterday which brought me to the Hacienda, at PIM, Pondok Indah Mall, in South Jakarta.

    ========

    ==========

Posher than my usual watering holes, we ended up there on the recommendation of my congenial companion, whose praise for the place proved justified,

They have a happy hour, and, since my pal bought the first round, and insisted I sample one of their cocktails, that was what I stuck to. Dashed good quality, as were the waitresses, all very pretty and polite – good management, clearly, to hire such cuties.

‘Classic Margarita’ – the name of the cocktail, not the waitress who brought them – costs about Rp.100 K, but it’s buy one, get one free, so almost affordable, and effective, since I found myself persisting with them until happy hour expired, I think at 7pm.

Then, though the food looked good, we moved on – having eaten mid-arvo, down further south in a Sundanese resto in Rempoa, we repaired to RRA HQ, where the booze is cheaper.

But that terrace overlooking the pool at PIM will surely see me re-visit.
