It seems ‘cultural/ language’ issues are causing problems, and rhe ‘multicultural’ residents don’t like having too many cops keeping an eye on them.

Get this.

Lebanese Muslim Association president Samir Dandan said the police had not cracked down as hard on other Sydney areas in the past and the “disproportionate” response would be harmful to the community.

“This is highly problematic and reinforces the experience of this community being over-policed and continues to create heightened sensitivities around the over-scrutinisation of these communities,” Mr Dandan said.

“We would have appreciated a much more balanced response and something that is more in line with their response to communities elsewhere who had similar clusters

Incidentally, I was watching a talk-show on ABC on Friday last week on which none of the guests was notably conservative.

While the other panellists behaved like normal people, smiling and cracking the odd joke, she glowered throughout, interjecting dour, mean-spirited comments.

Grumpy did at one point seem to get a little more animated, when she recounted the ‘abysmal ignorance’ about Aborigines expressed by some poor woman she’d met.

But what seemed to nettle her more than ignorance about her race was that the woman apparently asked her if the professorship she held was open to everyone or was it a job only offered, on a racially discriminatory basis, to ‘indigenous’ applicants.

Funnily enough, no answer was forthcoming on the show last week.

Do any Oz readers know the answer?

Was the professorial position advertised with a ‘no whites need apply’ condition attached?

At no time during all this rambling did the hostess challenge the assumption on which the show seemed to be predicated – that it’s the cops who need to change, not the outrageously high crime rates among these ‘poor, persecuted’ minorities    

One of those talking heads even suggested the ‘communities’ concerned were being ‘over-policed!’

Happily the flood of drivel was briefly halted as the BBC zoomed off-course, a special diversion to their hero Obama’s announcement of his new Defence Secretary.

After that, the spectrum of opinion was vastly expanded  – they had a journo from National Review, and an ex-cop who favours strong law n order policies, and a NY Conservative Party leader – NOT!

No pro-police voice was given a platform, except for ONE young man named Josh, who was not terribly articulate, though he made some sensible points.

But he was then insulted by some strident female who said she was ‘insulted’ by his ‘asinine’ ability to think for himself.
