Guardian’s Plain English Prob – ‘Priestesses,’ Please!

It was just a week ago that I drew attention to some common media English errors…

BBC? It CAN Get Something Right?

…but, sad to say, some media ideologues evidently don’t read my blog.

Why are female clergy cheering for a bishop who doesn’t believe in female priests?

What’s most annoying is that the author of the rant is herself a priestess, a Church of England vicaress, to be precise.

Anglicans can argue all they want – up to them, as I’m not Anglican.

But if they like ordaining women, they should use proper English.

We don’t refer to princesses as princes, do we?

Besides, as noted before, an event advertised as being convened by a priestess, rather than a priest, might well attract a bigger crowd.!

Depends on how vivid your imagination is!

I know you really like to annoy these libbers but if you call them priestesses, be consistent. She is not the author.
      She’s the authoress!

        You got me!
In my defence, I have only had 4 black coffees so far, so not at my sharpest.

BBC? It CAN Get Something Right?

Just saw yet another UK Pravda ad for their dreadful ( and seemingly endless) ‘BBC 100 Women” show…

No More Subversive Subtlety! BBC Exalts Marxists!

…which we have had to criticise more than once.

This advert today included a brief extract from a chat with an actress curiously called ‘Rebel’ Wilson…

….who gets in the media more often, IMHO….

Rebel Wilson has addressed the backlash over the lack of sizing options in her clothing line, R&R Club. https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/leylamohammed/rebel-wilson-clothing-brand-plus-size-inclusivity-backlash

    …than her limited talents merit.

But what made me nod in approval?

The text, describing her correctly, identified her job as…

    NOT ‘Actor!’

For years there’s been a tiresome habit in many media of trying to erase the distinction between male and female members of various professions…

…no doubt aping the affectations of bra-burning actresses in the USA.

But, ignoring Hollywood, one of the most idiotic examples of fanatic feminist lunacy has been the refusal, when discussing the Anglican ordination of women….

…accurately to refer to female aspirants’ wishes.

Even last month, we were hearing guff about an American woman wanting to become a Catholic ‘priest!’

    • By Valeria Perasso and Georgina Pearce
    • BBC 100 Women

But, if properly defined in plain English, her goal was to become a PRIESTESS!

The role of priestess has a long and illustrious history.

Indeed, if the Church of England’s variety looked like their ancient counterparts in other creeds, churches might not be so poorly attended!

About Time This Daft Old Priestess Had A Revelation!

The Reverend Sue Parfitt told the City of London Magistrates’ Court it had been hard for her as a law-abiding priest to defy police… https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/amp/uk-england-bristol-51389053

    A – she is not a ‘priest!’

    She is a priestess!

If she looked like this priestess, I’d offer my house for purposes of detention!

Just as a female in the acting profession is not an actor but an actress, just as HM, before ascending the throne, was not a prince but a princess!

    And ‘law-abiding?’

Get real, ya daft old biddy!

When she set out to make life a misery for decent folk going about their legitimate business by obstructing the public highway at London’s Oxford Circus, the arrogant Priestess Parfitt made a conscious decision to ignore all the many options democracy offers to advance her manic cause.

I could be harsh and hope she goes to prison.

But a divine revelation might be better – the truth shall set you free! Otherwise, Vox Pop, Vox Dei?
