    Alexis Harus Ditutup? Terus Gimana Hotel2 Bintang Lima?

    The Alexis must be shut down? So how about Jakarta’s various 5-star hotels?

    That’s my response to the news last month that hit the headlines here, concerning a famous place in the north of the city which is said to be…

    ====

    ===

    …and I quote The Jakarta Globe’s quoted descripton –

    ‘A Dreamland for Men!’  – http://jakartaglobe.id/news/jakarta-administration-shuts-infamous-alexis-hotel/

    But I’ll stick with the Jakarta Post for the most part, on our brand new Governor,  Anies Baswedan’s refusal to extend the operation permit of Alexis Hotel in North Jakarta, an establishment he explicitly mentioned during his gubernatorial campaign, claiming that he had collected sufficient evidence that it hosts prostitution services.

    “We are firm. We don’t want Jakarta to become a city that allows prostitution to take place.”

    That’s interesting.

    Whatever the Alexis’ faults – and I’ve never been there – they are surely not unique. ANYONE who has been out for an evening in some of our international-standard five-star hotels ( I won’t say all of them, because I haven’t been to all of them!) must be fully aware that it’s not at all unusual to bump into the occasional kupu2 malam.

    =

    Kupu2 malam = Night butterflies!

    ========

    I met up with a former colleague a couple of weeks ago in one such splendiferous – and expensive – edifice and we had barely ordered a couple of ‘happy hour’ beers before a delightful lady approached us with an amiable but acquisitive gleam in her eye.

    =

    Hasil gambar untuk five star hotels

    ………

    “Hi!”

    I responded with my habitual courtesy but promptly assured her that we were retired teachers, not the affluent tourists or foreign businessmen who constituted much of the clientele.

    She, with equal courtesy, and promptitude, took her leave of us and went off in search of more acceptable prey.

    =

    =====

    I’m sure she advised her colleagues/rivals because although there were quite a few similarly sultry sorts on the prowl, they none of them showed interest in us thereafter.

    I can think of at least three of four other grand hotels in the city where I’ve encountered these kinds of slightly avaricious but ever-charming slinkies, operating openly and regularly.

    I won’t name them, because I do not wish to be sued –  certain types of business persons here are as litigious as certain types of Americans! – but any male expat who goes out at night will surely confirm my veracity.

    Hence my headlined question – how about the 5-stars?

    Maybe Governor Anies Baswedan has never entered their bars after dark? Is he truly unaware of what goes on?

    Does he plan to refuse to extend their operating permits?

    =

    Gambar terkait

    =

    If some residents or some media tell him, will he seek to shut them down too?

    But that leads me to the rest of his statement, as reported in the JP.

    We have received reports and complaints from residents as well as media reports [about such a practice]…” Anies, however, refused to elaborate on what kind of evidence he had obtained.

    http://www.thejakartapost.com/news/2017/10/30/anies-firm-to-close-down-alexis-hotel.html

    So another question – does Anies have any REAL evidence, like police reports, or is he set to order the Alexis’ closure purely on the basis of just some fretty residents and the ‘media?

    How come he won’t say?

    And that brings us to another question!

    Has HE ever been there, in the Dreamland of Men?

    =

    =

    Has HE taken the trouble to use his gubernatorial limousine to travel up to Ancol and have a look, one evening, at the denizens of the Alexis?

    Surely that’s the very least that fair play demands, since ‘the Alexis Hotel has not violated any regulations,  according to its legal representative…

    ==========

    Hasil gambar untuk innocent till proven guilty quotes

    =========

    …and please note – the refusal to extend the hotel’s operation permit came after media stories regarding banned activities at the hotel, such as the hotel offering massage services.   http://www.thejakartapost.com/news/2017/10/31/alexis-hotel-wants-solution-to-keep-operating.html

    MASSAGE SERVICES!?!

    If there’s nothing else on the charge sheet, could there yet be a happy ending?

    Oh, but let’s not forget that closing Alexis was one of newly-elected Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan’s campaign promises during the gubernatorial election earlier this year.

    SO if he goes ahead, and demonstrates consistency by treating Jakarta’s celebrated international hotels with the same zeal, he will be keeping his word to those who supported him.

    =

    Anies Baswedan wins a smile from FPI ‘grand imam,’ Habib Rizieq

    ========

    And let’s ALSO not forget some of those supporters, like the white-shirt vigilante gang, the self-styled Islam Defenders Front – the FPI!

    THEY will be beside themselves with glee.

    Even more so if the national parliament presses on with their prohibition law.

    ===

    Let’s wait and see!

    Before we start packing.

        Of course Anies has never been there to Alexis I bet.
        But I am sure he has been to the five-star hotels for conference and things like that,.
        Did he never even peek through the bar door? If he did he must see the butterfly girls.
        So much hypocrites here in Jakarta political world..

      It is just like you say, Ross but your hero Ahok when he was governor was almost as obsessive about the terrible menace of the ‘ladies of the night.’
      In fact they don’t bother guys unless the guy wants to be bothered so I ask myself why doesn’t Anies give this ‘problem’ a low priority and give shutting down Islamist gangs a high priority?
      The answer is there in that big photograph!

      I do not like how you think about many things but it is true that Anies should be fair
      If he must order the Alexis Hotel to close he must also close the Jakarta hotels used by rich foreign people if the prostitute work there too.
      It is so with alcohol also.
      The goverment will tell many place to stop selling strong drinks but will never stop it in five star hotel places because the rich tourist will never come back.
      There is no moral in how this is done, it is all about money.

    Notorious Queer Publishes Anti-Trump Smear – Big Deal!

    Even CNN has so far stepped back from revealing full details of the latest dirty tricks move against Donald Trump.

    But I’ll bet a few bucks they’ll not hold back much longer.

    Once they’ve recovered from watching Obummer’s pathetic farewell, dried their simpering eyes, they’ll be all over it.

    But for now, they’re busily telling their audience that it’s available on ‘other media.’

    So let’s not beat around the bush.

    Let’s turn to a nasty little homo named Perez Hilton.

    Golden showers?

    Not something I’d want to try myself, true, but a helluva lot less horrendous than a man having ‘sex’ with another man.

    And blackmail?

    Self-evidently absurd.

    If the story’s out on the bloggosphere, it’s not worth paying a red cent in blackmail to cover it up, is it?

    And in any case…

    Who gives a sh-t?

    I’d never heard of this Hilton thing until it soared to ‘fame’ when it behaved so disgracefully at a beauty contest a year or so ago.

    Why a sexual maladjust was involved in choosing Miss America remains a mystery.

    But why he called Miss California a ‘dumb bitch’ was very clear.

    She, like millions of, probably most, Americans, didn’t support the  perversion of marriage!

    • This nice girl was then booed by gaystapo grotesques in the audience.
    • And the revolting queer (aka ‘celebrity blogger’) Hilton responded with vile abuse.

    Why Has Ahok Given Kali Jodo An Islamic Deadline?

    Blockaded by security forces, strict police control on who goes in or out?

    If that were the situation around IslamoNazi HQ in Tanah Abang, decent citizens would cheer.

    But while white-shirt FPI thugs remain free to go to and fro around the capital, and have all kinds of fanatics flit in and out of their lair, residents in Kali Jodo must now feel their little neighbourhood is in a state of quarantine.

    ———

    ——————-

    Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama said dozens of police officers and soldiers have been deployed to seal off Kalijodo, in a move to put an end to prostitution and gambling business, adding that only residents are allowed to enter….

    Do you now genuinely want all prostitution in Jakarta to be eradicated? Was that report last year inaccurate?

    Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama is recommending that the city administration legalize prostitution in certain areas…

    naked-lady-knees-up

    “Legalizing a prostitution site would be a solution because no matter how hard we try, we will never be able to eradicate prostitution. It will always exist as long as humans exist.”    Pelacuran Dimana? One Law for the Rich!

    But I have to. And ask again…

    Or is this jackboot jive only playing against poor people?

    Yes, we did ask that same question last week – Kali Jodo – Think Again, Ahok! Why Delight IslamoNazis? – but another new and very odd aspect to Ahok’s action emerges from the Jakarta Globe report.

    He has refused to reveal an exact date for the eviction, but promised it will be held before the capital welcomes Organization of Islamic Cooperation member states for an annual summit next March.

      I don’t like what you say in reply but this that you have written today about Ahok and Kali Jodo is something we do agree on so it would be unreasonable for me not to say so.
      There is a very large hypocrisy content in many areas of public life in Indonesia and like you I have always thought Ahok was a cut above the rest.
      Now I’m not so sure.
      So I find myself asking the same questions you are, and like you am very confused about why Ahok sees the OIC conference as relevant.
      I have heard he’s been invited to convert to Islam.
      What will the news be next month if or when he speaks at their conference?.

      It is a big double standard what is been done in Kali Jodo, eventhough I think the police should stop prostitution which is a great shame on our city.
      It is exactly so, all the rich men hiring the hookers in Hotel2 Bintang Lima
      We see it every time we go to meet for businis, and the foriegn tourists doing business with businis girls there in the bars.
      Why not police them? Just money talking.

    Kali Jodo – Think Again, Ahok! Why Delight IslamoNazis?

    I’ve posted on Kali Jodo before, more than once.

    —-

    silhouetee

    Aduh! Adieu Kali Jodo

    It’s a relatively short stretch of waterside road in Northwest Jakarta, which – as you can see from the night-time photo – is visually impressive.

    From a distance! At night! By day, not so impressive, but it has potential, and has always struck me as slightly reminiscent of the promenade in Nice!.

    Its demise has been declared imminent for more than a year, so nice to know it’s still there. But maybe not for long, and this acceleration towards destruction has been ‘justified’ in a most illogical manner.

    ——-

    =======================

    According to Rancah Post, Jakarta’s Governor Ahok has chosen to use a fatal accident on nearby Daan Mogot, a main road down which I passed only yesterday, as his excuse to speed up plans to ‘crack down.’

    ———–

    ahok Ahok

    …..

    The driver is said to have been ‘downing beers in Kali Jodo.

    That may be true, but are the bars, never mind the entertainment areas, where someone has consumed too many drinks, instantly targetted for total devastation, every time a drunk causes a fat-acc?

    b6128-alcoholicsilhouette

    —–

    Were that so, there’d be precious few taverns in the town, any town anywhere.

    Ahok is usually a cornucopia of common sense, a good governor, but this time I can’t go along with his reasoning. Alas, Kali Jodo’s reputation as an area of gambling and prostitution means that few folk will spring to its defence.
    The report describes the small area as having at least 60 buildings used as a karaoke home to about 15 to 20 prostitutes in each of the cafes.

    Again, to declare war on bars that have 15 to 20 hookers hanging about would logically mean shutting down quite a lot of the five-star hotels in Jakarta.

    stock-illustration-30527208-silhouettes-of-beautiful-pin-up-girls-1950s-style

    I once took a girl-friend to a very posh hotel to celebrate my birthday. We got there at around 7pm, ordered a couple of very expensive drinks in an almost empty bar, and were mildly amazed when, shortly after 8pm, it was suddenly inundated by about a hundred kupu2 malam – night butterflies, as the euphemism here goes!

    ——

    6e6cb-hypocrisyofoursociety

    ——.

    The thing is, those ladies were hoping to cater to rich people, affluent tourists or local businessmen. Kalijodo’s little watering-holes are patronised by humble folk, off-duty ojeks, the motor-bike-cabbies, or equally off-duty satpams, the ubiquitous security guards, working men for whom the prices are kept sane, a bottle of Bintang costing not mucn more than you pay in a supermarket.

    Knock those little cafes down, you’ll not stop prostitution, just shift it, and you’ll deprive the poorest section of Jakarta’s working population of bars they can afford to drink in. And there aren’t very many of those.

    Among the many who will not speak up for the putative dispossessed are Jakarta’s IslamoNazis, the FPI (Islamic Defenders Front)

    Far from it!

     …according to Chairman of the Islamic Defenders Front, Ahmad Shobri Lubis. “As community members we are ready to support the government. As long it’s for a good cause, we have no problem if asked to help the police and the military.”

    ——

    alubis Lubis

    ————————

    ITMA again!

    Lubis’ idea of a good cause was exemplified when he exhorted a rabid pack of primitive fanatics to ‘kill, kill, kill’ members of the peaceful Ahmadiyah minority. Watch the brute’s hate-rant here- . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U7RLCXNdKF4

    And the brutal Lubis’s gangster group have made violent threats against Kali Jodo in the past.

    Jakarta’s IslamoNazis Threaten More Thuggery

     However, back to the report.

    But it seems the effort to police Kalijodo will not run smoothly – thugs and the people in the vicinity are rumored to be against Ahok’s plan to curb the place.

    Funny that the report only uses the word thugs once they have already finished covering the FPI aspect.

    ———-

    anfpi2

    Thugs perfectly sums up the FPI!

    But let not the IslamoNazis get away with telling the media they are motivated by ‘good causes.’

    There’s at least some element of revenge in there too. The report offers insight into why they won’t try one of their all-too-frequent amok-runs against fellow-citizens…

    IslamoNazis V Freedom-Fighters? – Some Chicken, Some Neck

    FPI in West Java – ‘Let’s Burn Out the Orphans!’

    …not without a powerful police escort.

    According to the Commissioner Krishna Murti in his book entitled ‘Geger Kalijodo’, Kalijodo is guarded by thugs known as Tiger Cubs, whose duty is to maintain and supervise the practice of gambling and prostitution in Kalijodo.

    Chaps not to antagonise, clearly. But sit back and enjoy the next extract, which is ABSOLUTELY DELIGHTFUL!

    The toughness of this group was previously tested when they repulsed an FPI invasion… At that time, the FPI plunged headlong onto the motorway after being overwhelmed by forces armed with sharp weapons.

    —————-

    fpi_noble life martyr deatht ‘FPI. Noble Life or Martyr’s Death’ – or scuttle across the road, sharpish!

    .WOW!

    That episode deserves to be immortalised, not just in the Commissioner’s book but in a movie.

    It would be watched avidly and repeatedly in many communities across the archipelago which have been the scene of white-shirt thug depradations.

    http://www.rancahpost.co.id/20160250728/dijaga-anak-macan-fpi-dan-ahok-siap-serbu-kalijodo/

    Hasil gambar untuk tiger cubs playing

    Another report adds to the yummy yarn.

    It didn’t stop there, according to Krishna, the  Cubs had infiltrated their men in among the FPI to monitor their movements….

    So these guys are not just muscle. According to Krishna, the Tiger Cubs have a neat organizational structure..  http://wartakota.tribunnews.com/2016/02/12/geng-anak-macan-bikin-fpi-terbirit-birit-dari-kalijodo

    Givn the FPI’s record of cowardice, notably in Sukorejo or Purwakarta, you can see why they haven’t been back to Kali Jodo, and won’t, unless they go skulking along in the shadow of a major police operation.

      I do not think that the prostitution may be allowed anywhere. It is always not moral and harms the society and the women too. You do not maybe care enough about that.
      I do think you are right about the hypocracy. I have been reading your blog before making this my comment and I see it was in a 5 star hotel in Jakarta where the man took the student girl.
      Yes was it the same PKS man who was giving another girl much expensive gift and said to her
      ‘Dont thank me thank Allah.’
      He insults religion.
      There is too many hypocracites about prostitution. Ahok is a governor who is doing much good for Jakarta but he must show us he will not chase prostitution from Kali Jodoh while lets them make much money in the big hotels on Jalan Sudirman. .

    West Java, What Next? IslamoNazi Home Invasions?

    Hey, lazy Sunday, so catching up on news and, having just posted on IslamoNazi promises NOT to cause mayhem   in Central Java…Did Sukorejo Show Indonesia How To Curb IslamoNazi Thuggery…suddenly I notice we may well be getting some nearer home.

    • ———-

    • My home is my castle, so people in the Old Country say, meaning within their four walls they are safe from interference by sticky-beaks etc. But for residents of Depok, West Java, right next door to Jakarta, there may soon be a threat to such peace of mind.  No right to relax in your own home – the IslamoNazis are on the war-path again.

    • One of our numerous West Java readers sent us this story a while ago, but it is still timely.

    Sejumlah massa dari Front Pembela Islam (FPI) melakukan aksi di depan Gedung Mahkaman Konstitusi (MK), Jakarta, Rabu (27/1).  FPI savages, in cowardly mask mode

    ===============

    The self-styled Defenders of Islam Front (FPI) have brazenly boasted that they’ll not hesitate to carry out raids on apartments and boarding houses, the excuse being sticky-beak gossip that some of these dwellings are sometimes used as locations for prostitution.

    Needless to say, it’s good old Gauleiter Gadri, aka Habib Idrus Al Gadri, Depok FPI chairman, who’s up to his neck in this vigilante mischief.

    depok _swepping_buku Gauleiter Idrus Al Gadri

    “The problem today, Depok City Government does not care about issues like this,” he has declared! According to him, currently Depok City Government emphasizes physical development rather than building moral citizens.  http://metro.tempo.co/read/news/2015/04/29/083662095/Marak-Prostitusi-FPI-Ancam-Razia-Kos-dan-Apartemen-di-Depok

    Then he had a rant about how the municipal government does not combat the circulation of liquor…that is the source of all evil...

    Well, the way I felt last Thursday morning, after a fine night out on Wednesday, I could almost have agreed with him.

    ———————–

    • prohibition_
    • ALL evil? Really?

    But if Incandescent Idrus reckons sexual liaison behind the closed doors of rented apartments is one of those evils, as he obviously does, how is circulation of liquor the source of that?

    You might bring home a six-pack to share with your chosen chick, but accessibility of alcohol does not, of itself, make you want to hook up, with a hooker or anyone else. A guy can be stone-cold sober and still get the urge.

    Logic is not the Gauleiter’s strong point.

    But that’s his problem, not anyone else’s – until the strutting fanatic starts sending in thugs to gate-crash people’s homes and see who’s in bed with whom.

    In principle, if the law enforcement officers want to do the job, FPI will stand back. But, if they do not listen, we are going ourselves to raid places of prostitution,” he said.

    Sadly, a lot of police time is indeed wasted on hunting down unmarried couples (NOT just slappers and clients) who are having fun in hotels etc.

    It’s one of the odd aspects of living here in Indonesia. Occasionally, we get a laugh, when the biter is bit – here’s a link to a story from where one of the captured couples turned out to be police officers! Duh! Suami Lagi Pendidikan, Oknum Polwan di Rumah “Ditemani” Perwira – JPNN.com

    NB, as always, it’s little hotels that are targetted, not the five-stars where the rich take their pick of high-class tarts from glitzy lounge bars. (although sometimes not – the big celeb slapper scandal mysteriously erupted after revelations from a posh hotel raid –Five-Star Hotel Hooker Horror – Jakarta Post Grammar Probe? )

    But NB again, this time it’s NOT just hotels – it’s APARTMENTS AND BOARDING HOUSES – people’s private dwelling-places!!

    If some bloke has his girl friend round for the weekend, and a gang of white-shirt louts break in,…?

    Unfortunately gun ownership is heavily restricted here, because in my opinion, any resident thus faced with home-invasion by bigot ignoramuses with absolutely no right whatsoever to be troubling peaceful citizens…

    HomeInvasion_DVDCover_Thumbnail__71142_zoom

    ….that resident would be entirely justified in taking down the sectarian brutes with whatever weapon might be handy.

    Mind you, given the FPI’s record of cowardice when they face indignant citizens’ resistance, they’d likely turn tail and run – unless the foe were out-numbered ten to one! IslamoNazis V Freedom-Fighters? – Some Chicken, Some Neck

    Far too many people here get totally uptight about ‘morality’ matters, but in this case, it seems the gorgeous Kartika Putri has been stressed out after rumours linked her name to the nonsense.

    Kartika has denied any such involvement, and burst into tears when Jessica Iskandar cracked some ‘witty’ jibe on the subject during a programme called Pesbukers.

    —————-

     Jessica

    —————–

    I have not watched Pesbukers, which is somebody’s idea of ‘Facebookers,’ apparently, part of the self-perpetuating myth that Indonesians can’t pronounce the letter ‘F.’ This myth continues despite everyone here perfectly capable of pronouncing Idul Fitri – if the last days of Ramadan were pronounced Idul Pitri, there’d be bafflement, so why this pretence they can’t differentiate between the two letters?

    No idea, but I do know why Kartika got mad on tv.

    It’s because she bitterly resents the gossip-mongers who have spread the nasty rumour that she’s been available for jollies at a price of Rp.150 million  – about US$15,000..

    ==============

    Even at her ‘extended family gatherings,’ it seems, everyone’s gone quiet on her arrival. This is a big deal, because Indonesians regard these gatherings as a big deal, so when one of her uncles ‘hurled a newspaper’ in dismay, this cut her to the quick..

    However, Jessica evidently apologised and peace was restored. She’s a funny sort of beauty, who appeared here ages ago due to her odd notion of learning about Islam by consultation with the IslamoNazi FPI.

    There are plenty of civilised Islamic organisations to whom she could have turned, so why go see a gang infamous for bullying and vandalism? There was talk at the time of her converting from Christianity – some silly fuss due to a marriage, which is surely nobody’s business but hers and her man’s,

    But bigots here get into a terrible tizzy about such matters – remember the sad saga of that other nice young couple?

    How Dare IslamoNazis Rant Of ‘Disrespect for Indonesian Law?’

    However, that’s another story.

    I do feel sorry for these girls whose names are being dragged through the mire in the run-up to the ‘Holy Month,’ but at least it gives us an excuse to delight our readers with photos of some of the blossoms which make indonesia a bright place to dwell.

    Ramadan Approaching – Beware ‘Routine’ Vigilante Raids!

    Aaah, the ‘holy month of contemplation and reflection’ is fast approaching, Ramadan!

    And in keeping with that solemn spirit, the IslamoNazi whiteshirts of the FPI, the ‘Islamic Defenders Front,’ are revving up for what their Bekasi Gauleiter calls ‘routine‘ vigilante raids on ‘discotheques, bars, and even luxury hotels!’

    stock-illustration-30527208-silhouettes-of-beautiful-pin-up-girls-1950s-style

    “One week before Ramadan we will comb the places allegedly used for vice, to curb the practice of immorality in the Muslim fasting month,” said Imam Al Budry Mulyana.

    http://www.gobekasi.co.id/2015/05/15/fpi-bakal-razia-tempat-prostitusi/

    Well, obviously not every luxury hotel (there aren’t that many!) in Bekasi is a den of iniquity – or is it?   I lived there for three tiresome years, and it was hard going to find any places to have fun. Maybe things have improved!

    Only the IslamoNazis seem to know –  Mulyana says his merry men can’t rely on the local police – and how, one wonders, are these sectarian louts so knowledgeable about these interesting matters?

    wine-women-and-song

    One can only speculate how they spend their spare time! But it’s depressing to contemplate the imminence of kill-joy hooliganism again.

    Of course it’s not just imbecilic raids on entertainment spots – even the right of honest citizens to sit down to lunch is under threat.

    • Many had hoped that the election of President Jokowi would herald a sturdy defence of pluralism and a crack-down on these nasty hoodlums.

    It remains to be seen what will happen this year.

    But given the new government’s failure, so far, to tackle easily remedied abuses by bigots – the churches sealed by sectarian jihadists, for example, have not been opened for their congregations to worship in peace  – I tend to fear that once again the Islamist gangster groups will be able to intimidate with impunity in the run-up to Ramadan, which starts just four weeks from now.

    I truly hope to be proven wrong.

      FPI always like making trouble.
      They are very arogant.
      It is none of their business who eat drink or dance in Ramadan month.
      They think they are God.
      I think they are devils.

    Five-Star Hotel Hooker Horror – Jakarta Post Grammar Probe?

    english-post-english-not-good

    the-jakarta-post

    Prostitution has been there since my childhood but we have hypocrite and posed not to know about it,” kompas.com quoted him as saying here on Monday.

    That’s allegedly Jakarta’s Governor Ahok speaking, about a ‘high-class pimp’ story hitting headlines here.

    He also said he did not know the number of ublic officials using sex workers’ service but many have abused their power to pay the high tariff.

    • stock-illustration-30527208-silhouettes-of-beautiful-pin-up-girls-1950s-style
    • He admitted he had difficulties to eliminate prostitution, including the online one, in the capital city.

    http://www.thejakartapost.com/news/2015/05/11/ahok-not-shocked-arrest-high-class-prostitution-pimp.html

    I am content to grant that the word ‘ublic’ is just a misprint for ‘public.’ Thanks be it was not misprinted as ‘pubic!’

    But the abominable standard of English must surely make the newspaper a laughing-stock, not least among those who, like myself, have in the past described it as part of the ‘English-language media.’

    ————-

    • ahok Ahok
    • ———————
    • Ahok of course did not use those words attributed to him – he would have spoken in Indonesian and the bizarre rendering of his quote is entirely down to whichever English-language ‘expert’ translated it and the ‘editorial’ staffer who approved it.

    Perhaps some of my former students who spent most of class-time playing with their hand-phones?

    It’s early morning here and I’ll check out other media later, hoping to uncover the interesting parts of the story – e.g. the name of the posh hotel, never mind the celebrity slapper – carefully concealed.

    But I remain convinced nothing will be quite as shocking as that grotesque grammar!

    I’m reading the ‘online one,’ of course, not the paper edition, so don’t yet know if that shares the short-comings.

    If so, will Gramedia, who own the JP, recall all today’s copies and subject them to the book-burning process for which they are notorious?

      Maybe the other media has her name because I am looking now at who is the selebrity AA.
      But she said she is not in the hotel.
      Maybe my grammar is not so bad as Jakarta Post editors. Can I maybe get new job?

      It was I think Prince Philip who memorably called the Daily Express ‘a bloody awful newspaper.’
      What he would have made of the Jakarta Post, I hate to think.

      Their bias is an editorial prerogative but why so slipshod in production.

      So instead of telling you that it’s beneath the Jakarta Post to approach you because you were once an English teacher, that comment a few months ago should have been urging them to find as many English teachers as they could to improve their inadequate employees..
      I’m an English teacher here and was going to rely to that person’s insult to the profession at the time but didn’t get around to it.
      So now I have.

      Question – why does the Jakarta Globe have far fewer grammar errors than the Jakarta Post?
      Possible Answer- – if you pay peanuts, you get monkeys?.
      True or not?
      I know the Globe is owned by one of the richest people in Indonesia.
      Gramedia, on the other hand, may be less wealthy.
      But you are right, Gramedia’s book-burning stinks.

      I remember they kept very low key and therefore kept publishing during Suharto’s dictatorship.
      Now they bow and scrape to the Jihadists.
      Principles? Or would their subeditors spell it Principals?

    Pelacuran Dimana? One Law for the Rich!

It will always exist as long as humans exist.”

    ———–

    Ahok’s proposal makes an interesting contrast to the approach of Indonesia’s second-largest city, Surabaya, where the mayor last year ordered the shut-down of one of the oldest prostitution zones. the Doly district.

    Piala Dunia Dolly? Kupu2 Lawan Fanatik2? Who Needs World Cup Matches?

    But rather than debate the different approaches, how about the way it’s reported.

    The Jakarta Post accurately notes that the hooker industry operates in plain sight and in various places across the city.

    But then it offers a somewhat selective snapshot of these ‘various places,’ naming three here in Jakarta and one in Bandung.

    =

     Doly

    =

    There are several illegal red-light districts in Jakarta, including Kalijodo in West Jakarta, Boker in East Jakarta and Bongkaran in Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta.

    —————————

    • kalijodo Kali Jodo
    • —————–
    • Well, Kali Jodo would be quite a site, or sight, if properly developed, using its potentially picturesque waterside location.
    • But Ahok himself has threatened to have it erased.

      Aduh! Adieu Kali Jodo?

    • However, as constituted at present, it is certainly not upmarket, though its little bars do serve a decent beer at a decent price. I know at least one expat who likes to drop by entirely for that reason.
    • I’ve no info on the other two areas, but suspect they too cater for the low end of the market.
    • =========================
    • Hence I am moved to ask why the JP doesn’t name (and shame?) most of the upmarket hotels, 5-star variety, where slappers swarm, especially on ladies’ nights.
    • After 10pm, when they weary of their Blok M endeavours, they arrive in droves, and those hotels are awash with rich foreigners…

    • ==================
    • Nor is the intrepid reporter even seemingly aware of Blok M, where many, if not most, bars on Jalan Falatehan teem with kupu2 malam, ‘night butterflies, ‘ who aim to ensnare a moneyed expat.
    • Not all expats here are moneyed by any stretch of the imagination, but in the eyes of the butterflies,and certainly compared to the poor local patrons at Kali Jodo, every foreigner is fairly affluent.
    • stock-illustration-30527208-silhouettes-of-beautiful-pin-up-girls-1950s-style
    • ===================================
    • Nor is there any mention of Jalan Jaksa, a somewhat pale shadow of the night-life hub it was ten to fifteen years ago, but nevertheless a centre for back-packer budget travellers and the less affluent resident aliens, and thus for less avaricious girls on the make.
    • It used to be a lot of fun, but is now being gentrified…boring, yeah?
    • ——
    • If Ahok is serious in his aim to limit prostitution to one official centre, is he going to tackle what happens on those seamy, steamy streets, or in the expensive bars of those glitzy hotels?
    • Doesn’t sound like it.
    • =

    • =
    • We see on our tv news, from time to time, ridiculous razia (raids) by SatPol PP civic militia, dragging hapless young (or not so young) ladies off on their trucks.
    • But never yet have I heard of a raid on the fancy haunts of five-star tourists and businessmen.

    He suggested that the city administration provide one apartment building as a prostitution site where visitors would need to provide identification…

    ======================

    • Bajaj+Before Bajaj
    • ======================
    • ONE apartment block?

    For a city of between ten and twenty million souls? Queues stretching a mile and a half down the road outside, where irate wives and girl-friends could cruise by in bajaj to spot errant menfolk and hand-bag them?

    Methinks our good Governor underestimates the L.Q. of the  populace!

    But Lust Quotient or not, methinks in reality that Ahok is not expecting to get too far with this scheme.

    ooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

    • ahok
    • ———-
    • “I understand that this idea would be impossible to implement, especially in our country where everyone claims to be pure from sin. But if anyone has a better idea, I would like to hear it,” Ahok said.

    If that’s the plan, let’s hope the city would make sure that the ‘religious guidance‘ would be ‘given’ by decent people – not foul fanatics.

    I still shudder at the way West Java Police handed over defenceless children to rabid sectarians for ‘spiritual guidance!’Muslim School Burned by Angry Crowd – Police Enlist IslamoNazis to Counsel Kids!

    Warem2 Indonesia – Will Prohibition Herald a Land of ‘Dimly-Lit Stalls?’

    ===========

    Here we are folks, one of those ‘dimly-lit stalls’ we keep hearing about. Just insert the phrase in our RRA search box and you’ll find plenty of references to this  phenomenon, which is the bete noire of kill-joy sectarian gangs across this beautiful archipelago.

    I’ve gotta hand it to Harian Terbit for that alluring picture.  http://www.harianterbit.com/megapol/read/2015/03/24/23147/29/18/Masyarakat-dan-FPI-Desak-Pemkot-Bekasi-Tertibkan-Warem-di-Jatisampurna

    It was taken in Bekasi, a place not much fun when I lived there ten or more years ago, and increasingly so today, regrettably, given the bigoted regime of the Regent, No-Shame Neneng, whose loathing of religious liberty we have oftimes covered.

    However today’s post will be confined to more mundane matters, with these dimly lit stalls (warem) paradoxically in the spotlight.

    oooooooooooooo
    o=
    ========================

    All Our Tomorrows – Jakarta Pedestrians Breathalysed?

    I’d noticed it when first published last month, but with the Government’s declaration that ALL consumption of alcohol, not just in Bekasi but across the archipelago (except Bali) is to be outlawed, it offers a glimpse of Indonesia’s potential Prohibitionist future.

    It appears that ‘people’ in the Bekasi district of Kranggan Jatisampurna are ‘complaining,’ because ‘although often urged by the public, the city government is reluctant to take any action.’

    The Regent is responsible for a wider area, but the actual city is the fief of yet another Golkar Party bigwig, Mayor Rahmat Effendi, also well-known to regular RRA readers.

    =

    • Neneng two-facedii.scoteffendi No-Shame Neneng and Rachmat Effendi

    —-

    So what’s Rahmat done, or not done, to upset these ‘people?’

    One resident of Kranggan, Edi (40) complained that until now the city government has not dared to bring order to the warem area at Jatisampurna, though its existence has an impact on the social life of the surrounding community.

    And Edi’s ire is echoed by the War-Lord – a free translation but fair, I think – the head of the Laskars (Warriors) of the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) in Greater Bekasi, Ustadz Cecep M Hudzaifah.  Oddly, Google Translate gives his name as Cecelia ( reminds me of the old pop song – ‘you’re breaking’ my heart!’) but I know he’s a fellow, not a female.

    =============

    Cecep-Hudzaifah-4 Cecep – not a happy man

    ————–

    I am fairly certain the IslamoNazis don’t have women warriors – it would be inappropriate, given the definitive statement by their Jakarta boss (recently sentenced for ring-leading a riot)

    According to his Bekasi comrade, Cecep, the Jatisampurna warem are still in operation, Bekasi city government unfortunately just sealed off the place without any concrete action.

    This, he rails, has given rise to immorality – and that comprises adulterated alcohol and alcoholic beverages, as well as the proliferation of naughty rented houses, as well as massage parlors!

    http://www.beritaekspres.com/2015/03/21/laskar-pembela-islam-kompleksitas-masalah-sosial-marak-pemkot-bekasi-tutup-mata/

    Well, adulterated booze can be damaging to one’s health.

    And the risk has surely been exacerbated by the ludicrous anti-alcohol lobby here, which recently enacted an intolerant edict that won’t even let you buy an honest beer to take home from any of the many mini-marts which previously sold it.

    Nor can you buy one and sit inside or outside the store to ease the strain of a hot arvo/evening, of which there are also many here.

    Now we face an escalating narrow-minded prohibitionism.

    If the patrons of the dimly-lit stalls could get a decent drink for a decent price, would they not do so? Like the working-man in Cambridge’s Clarendon Arms in the UK, or Stratford’s Dominion House, in Ontario, non-affluent Bekasi blokes feel a need to relax over a drink after a long, hard day.

    But the tax on booze makes it expensive even for a mildly prosperous middle-class Indonesian, never mind your average working stiff.

    ================

    The queue at my local dentist? No, if so I’d be eating candy and drinking Pepsi all day long! Actually, it’s a picture illustrating warem nightlife, allegedly. No address supplied by the media links – sorry!

    Oh, and I just LOVE this photo, prohibitionist charmers in yesteryear USA. As Grandpa used to say  ‘Twould drive ye tae drink!’

    ———————————-

    Ironically, Cecep continued, it’s not far, only 100 meters, from the police station…where are the security forces and the city authorities..inert, silent, just letting this go on…?

    Fair enough, his questions might well deserve an answer, if an illicit retail outlet is in operation as Cecep claims.

    But as for the dimly-lit stalls’ other attractions, why whine about the girls?

    If you want to crack down on poor slappers trying to get by in a very hard world, why urge the cops to pick on the gals in warem2?   One law for the rich, one for the poor?

    Take a walk into any five-star hotel in Jakarta – especially after 10 pm on ladies’ nights, when the Falatehan over-spill arrives! The only difference between their bars and the warem2 is the amount customers pay for a beer – and everything else that’s on offer.

    So when did the FPI – or the Police – last raid a glitzy international hotel?

    prohibition_

    Speak-Easy slappers, aka flappers,  in Prohibitionist America

    Once prohibition is in place, they’ll have their hands full as ‘dimly-lit stalls’ AKA speak-easies, proliferate across the land.

      Grand photos. Those American ladies must have done wonders for the strong drink trade.
      On the big issue, I think you’re being realistic.
      People will go on drinking, and finding ways of getting a drink here.
      The police don’t raid the dimly-lit stalls and it’s not because they are lazy. Somewhere, somebody, is making it more advantageous for them not to.
      The only downside is that when we start hanging around the DSTs, the prices will go up!
