Planning To See The Komodos? Beware!

There is on-going discussion about a plan to close all or part of Komodo Island next year…

Controversial plan to save ‘shrinking’ Komodo dragons

The Sydney Morning HeraldJun 1, 2019

…so a lot of people here in Indonesia and abroad may be thinking about seeing the dragons before the closure.

So just a few words to anyone pondering such a visit.

Wise people know they should beware of the big carniverous creatures…

    Komodo drago..

…who like to tuck into goats and deer and even their co-resident monkeys ( beware of them too!))

But beware also of the rip-off souvenir traders who have their stalls near the landing point.

    Don’t get me wrong.

The whole trip was splendid, as recorded previously!

    My Indonesian Island Break

    Image result for flores islands

….but here are a few less than splendid details that I felt worth mentioning.

Landing on the island itself means you need a ticket to the park. Rp.150,000 for foreigners, Rp.5000 for Indonesians.

No point in complaining because it’s all laid down in the regulations.

But if you want to buy a t-shirt featuring a dragon, be alert!

I wandered over and asked the price. And if I bought two, was there a discount?

The vendor mumbled something which I took to be ‘50.’

    ‘Okay, I’ll take two.’

I handed him a hundred thousand, and got a disbelieving stare. Our party’s guide came over, to clarify the man’s message.

    ’150 each.’

I laughed and explained that I was no tourist, having lived in Indonesia for two decades or more. I extended my hand to retrieve my cash. The vendor held fast to the banknote.

After a moment, he said, ‘OK. 75.’

More than was fair but I am not a harsh man. Another fifty changed hands.

Moments later, another member of my little group showed me her identical t-shirt – for which she’d paid Rp.60,000!

No surprise. She was an Indonesian, after all.

The least I can do is warn you.

Also, mind how you go if you eat at the food-stalls by the harbour at Labuan Bajo, whence the ships for Komodo and other islands depart.

Double-check the prices when you order your meal.

As everywhere, some folks are honest but others are not.

Not only in Labuan Bajo, Ross.
Some of my Indonesia people are big cheats and they cheat not only foreigbers.

I was watching some Western channel last night or early today and they had the governor of that province saying he wanted to move the villagers off that Komodo island.
It sounds unfair to my way of thinking.
      How about you!

“I can say that this is a serious situation,” chief European auditor Bettina Jakobsen told reporters in Brussels on Monday (12 November)

Almost everything that happens in a downward-spiralling Islamist autocracy can probably be classified as a ‘serious situation,’ especially if you are not inclined to have your life governed by backward shariah codes…

But Bettina is not talking about that, nor about the (at least equally worrying and overtly expansionist) revanchist agenda espoused by the sectarian regime.

Well. it turns out that, as we prophesied, expected and instinctively knew…

    Rip-Off! NYPD Bows To Shariah!

Of course it’s quite disgraceful, the ripoff perpetrated on NYPD ‘by three Muslim women who were forced to take off their hijabs for mug shots,’ so the Daily News tells us.

The three acquisitive bints got $60,000 each in response to arrogant shrilling about how New York’s Finest made them remove their sectarian headscaves.
You may read the whole report here – http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/women-forced-hijabs-mugs-settle-city-article-1.3845434 – but listen to the gloating lawyer who extorted the cash from the cops.glorification!

“We did our best to establish good precedent,” said Aboushi, noting several religions have headwear requirements.

“On the one hand, it gives officers guidance, and on the other hand, it protects the exercise of religious freedom,” Aboushi said.

    Freedom of religion?

What’s that got to do with scarfing?
Shariah and women’s rights are mutually exclusive concepts.

    Big Apple please note!

There is NO obligation on the part of Muslim women to cover their hair!

We have, here on this blog, explained that simple truth often enough over the years.

‘An Archaic Tribal Rag’ – Wise UK Muslim Imam Says ‘Ban the Burqa!’

It’s on the BBC! Bag-Head Bans Do Not Infringe Religious Liberty!

Fiery Islamists – ‘Head-Scarves NOT a Big Issue!’

I don’t know how many times we need to make the point. In Jakarta, I see and talk to and enjoy the company of Muslim women every day who do not cover their lovely black glossy hair.
    Those who do?
A lot are no doubt peer-pressured, or coerced by jihadi-sympathising employers.

Or, as we have shown you before…

‘Fathers and husbands, their aurat is your responsibility!’
    …by bigoted fathers or husbands.

Others like it as a fashion, perhaps, and others again revel in flaunting their personal Islamist allegiance.
But it IS an individual choice.

    NOT a religious duty.

Those newly-rich bints in the Big Apple don’t deserve a red cent from the city’s tax-payers.

Good stuff, Ross, it is crazy giving them cash instead of a spell behind bars.
Great picture that, too, the three shariah worms gnawing at the Big Apple.
      Keep up the good work.

Edinburgh Airport – Where Rip-Off Meets the World?

What a disgraceful outfit Edinburgh Airport is!

    Talk about customer-unfriendly!

… a teacher accidentally left his laptop in the seat pocket in front of him on the plane. He called the airport to report it and went to pick up the computer the same day — where he was told he could not have it back unless he paid a £20 (about $35) fee…   https://au.totaltravel.yahoo.com/news/a/28762617/the-most-ridiculous-air-travel-fee-ever/

Not that Edinburgh Airport is the only sky-high rip-off around.
Some local airlines here in Indonesia try to stop you  bringing your own food on board, a slimy endeavour to force you to pay stupid prices for second-rate cr@p they dispense.

Best to scoff your own food fast, as soon as you’re on board…or just tell sticky-beak staff to drop dead!

But as the Yahoo reports observes, ‘the man’s personal property was being held hostage.’

    • braveheart
    • Turns out Edinburgh Airport authorised some outside company, called Luggage Point, to get hold of the man’s laptop, rather than look after customers’ property themselves.

Instead of taking care, Luggage Point takes advantage, to the tune of rip-off  ‘fees’ before they’ll hand folk their own property back!

    • Shameless-Exploitation
    • The greedy gits charge anything from £5 (about $9.50) for small personal items to £7.50 (about $14.50) for bags all the way up to £50 (about $80) for bigger, more expensive things that have been longer forgotten.
    • sod that
    • As the righteously aggrieved teacher told the media, –

“I just couldn’t believe it,” the teacher told The Edinburgh Evening News. “What gives Edinburgh Airport the right to take my property and hand it over to a third-party commercial organisation, who are then going to extort £20 out of me or more to get it back?”

Hard to credit the effrontery of –

Edinburgh Airport – Where Scotland Meets The World

    – but at least you can find their contact details via that link.

Why not brighten up their day with a brief message to say what you think about the way their arrogant indifference to customers besmirches Scotland’s long tradition of hospitality?

Monopoli Taksi Bali? Ayo, Pak Presiden – Smash The Ngurah Rai Racket!

    Taksi_blue_bird  \

    Bluebirds are usually reliably metered

The disgusting rip-off fares charged by many of the taxi-drivers who hang about Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport are back in the news again, a report from that useful Bali website confirming that the monopoly exploiting arrivals there are demanding sums substantially higher than the cost of a metered-taxi traveling the same distance.http://www.balidiscovery.com.

Some of you may be wondering if this rapacity could be perpetrated with impunity unless there were powerful backing from somebody higher up the ranks of airport power. And if so, why are the cops not raiding the airport and rounding up the scurvy knaves responsible?

Angkasa Pura I, the managers of the Bali Airport, have granted an exclusive monopoly to the Ngurah Rai Taxi Cooperative…

...despite such a monopoly arrangement and any limitation on free trade being expressly forbidden by the anti-monopoly law No. 5 of 1999.

I addressed my headline to President Jokowi because I’m still convinced he’s a decent man at heart, despite much of the nonsense which has emerged from both his ministers and the DPR (parliament) here. I appreciate that a government as indifferent as the current one seems to be ( to tourism as an industry ) may not be overly concerned about the plight of innocent travellers who only want to enjoy a relaxing trip to Bali…Bingung Buaaanget! – Gimana Minum Bir Di Bali?

…but surely a word from Palace to Police about corruption  – and/or coercion by cabbies  – would not be too much to ask.

… in addition, those using the taxis in late evening hours are coerced by drivers to pay even more than the already-high posted fares.

    • c7f1d-day11-evildead2 A rip-off ratbag cabbie?
    • ==============
    • One passenger told Tribun-Bali.com that a trip from the Airport to the nearby Dewi Ruci Monument costs Rp. 120,000 (US$9.25), a price substantially higher than what a taxi using a meter would charge.
    That’s bloody outrageous.
I’ve posted on this again and again.

Bali Cops Corral ‘Gypsy’ Cabs – So When Will The ‘Regulars’ Charge Fair Fares?

Beautiful Bali’s Criminal Cabbies – Warning!

If you walk past the sleazy ratbags soliciting huge sums, as far as the exit from the airport, you can get a decent cabbie who will either have a meter, like the usually good Bluebirds, or will bargain with you.

One expatriate resident of Bali wrote to Bali Update to complain of a “Taxi Mafia” where air passengers arriving on late flights discover that the Ngurah Rai Taxi Booth is closed and the lack of a signage listing the approved tariffs to various destinations. The same reader said taxis standing by late at night demand a fare of Rp 350,000 (US$27) or more for a ride to nearby Legian.

Rp.50,000 is a fair fare to Legian or Kuta. Get a taxi outside the rip-off zone. Give him a tip (10 %) and he’ll be happy enough.

But that’s not so easy if you have a bunch of kids and all that luggage.

And here’s the rub. They recently allowed, at last, a proper airport bus service.

    sarbagita bus

Seemingly by design, passengers who opt to avoid the taxis and take theTrans Sarbagita Bus System are compelled to walk a distance of more than 500 meters to wait an indeterminate amount of time for the next bus to depart.

    • JazPen 11:31 on June 9, 2015 Permalink | Reply

      How true.
There used to be a public angkot-type bus went along that airport road, under 5000 to Kuta, but I haven’t seen one for a while.
      Those airport taxis are sharks.

“Eat A Free Breakfast? God Forbid!” Canada’s Babe Ruth!

I’m sure readers all over the world shared my joy at the come-uppance received by that obnoxious rich brat who thought her lineage made her mistress of the skies.

It’s probably fair to say everyone despised the behaviour, and rejoiced in the humiliation, of that arrogant Korean, Cho Hyun-Ah, who went nuts over a bag of nuts!
    • But today, a very lazy day, with ironing being done by somebody other than its owner, I have had time to catch up on Canadian news!
    • And here’s a well-fed old bat, Senator ‘Babe’ Ruth, whining because her snobby contempt for her free airline breakfast has been exposed to public scorn!

    Babe Ruth hates camembert!

My personal philosophy has always been that if food is on offer, you eat it, gratefully – and if you don’t like it, bring your own!.

You don’t rip off someone else, especially the Canadian tax-payer, and more especially not if you’re a Canadian senator like Nancy Ruth.

She takes the view that she shouldn’t be expected to eat airline breakfasts.  “If you want ice-cold camembert with broken crackers, have it!” said Senator Nancy Ruth.

    What an arrogant ould biddy!

My message to Babe this Good Friday? An old TV ad jingle!

‘With Kraft Cheese Slices, there isn’t any fuss, you get a super sandwich –  and you don’t miss the bus!’

Or your free Air Canada flight!

Bali Discriminates? No Complaints, Except – Still – About Besaki!

So the Balinese have plans to charge foreign visitors more when visiting provincial tourist locations?

    What’s to object to?

    It’s already done at Borobudur.

    borobudur-main-entrance Borobudur

    And it is, paradoxically, fair.

If Bali wants to make money, it has to price its heritage sites in such a way as to pay for their upkeep. If they charge, say, ten bucks, for everyone, then how can a poor local family afford to see their own country’s cultural heritage? But ten bucks to a Japanese or Aussie tourist is a not unreasonable price to pay.

If the charge for all is fifty cents, which poor Indonesians can afford, it’ll take a lot of foreign visitors to cover proper administration and maintenance of the sites.

Bali people deserve applause for aesthetic appreciation.

In Java, we’ve seen Islamist ignoramuses doing all they can to destroy their own rich history. See – Blasting Borobudur? ISIS, Enemies of Civilisation!  and  https://rossrightangle.wordpress.com/2011/09/18/ignorant-islamist-bigots-attack-indonesias-heritage-java-statues-wrecked/

patung-bima-purwakarta FUI savages amok in Java

Sadly, some of the foreigners who visit Bali are as ignorant, though not as moronic, as the FUI malignants.

Sadly, some tourists never go to see any historical or architectural marvels. They go to bars and discos. (I like both, marvels and nightlife!)

The bad side of the Bali news is not the price differential, but, as the head of the revenue section of the Provincial Government, I Made Santha, said “this will (only) be applied at tourist objects owned by the province.”  http://www.balidiscovery.com/messages/message.asp?Id=11617

     Bajra Sandhi

The report mentions a couple of those, namely the Monument of the People’s Struggle (Bajra Sandhi) and Taman Budaya, both located in downtown Denpasar.

But I fear that list does NOT include the Great Temple of Besaki.

It is a fine sight to see, but almost every visitor I’ve ever met who’s gone there has been appalled by the scavengers who control it, scurvy layabouts who seek to extort tourists of any and every nationality.

The whole area is immersed in a rip-off mentality, all the more offensive since it is a place of worship.

    The Governor should clamp down!

Hey, Brits! Fight Back Against Anti-Armed Forces Legal Lice!

As part of our policy of pro bono public service announcements, we’re happy to promote this petition being promoted by CWF – there are many good conservatives in the Conservative Party, despite Cast-Iron’s repudiation of just about every conservative principle!

Typical anti-armed services lawyer, sucking the blood of the tax-payers of the country it betrays.

I mentioned in that recent post about American law how legal lice have crawled all over the US justice system to advance the cause of vermin and undermine proper law enforcement.

Now this news item spotlights the similar phenomenon in the UK, activists with law degrees who seek vast multiples of thirty pieces of silver for stabbing the country’s fighting men and women in the back.

Tell the left wing lawyers what you think of

their promotion of ‘deliberate and calculated lies’ about our military

Conservative Way Forward has set up a petition to demand the immediate repayment to the taxpayer of the £30 Million squandered on activist lawyers’ fees for the unnecessary Al-Sweady inquiry.
Help us get our money back, sign the petition here.

We are also demanding that the Solicitors Regulation Authority investigate these firms for alleged breaches of professional standards.

We will show that the public refuses to sit idly by as politically-motivated lawyers profit from promoting ‘deliberate and calculated lies’ about our military.

Signing this petition with us will show your disgust at how our troops are consistently undermined and attacked by wave after wave of left wing lawyers.

We need your help. Please sign the petition and send the message that  enough is enough.

To help us show the strength of feeling, click the button below and forward the e-mail to as many people as you can.
