Sectarian Censors – UCLA Echoes Gramedia’s Grovel!

It’s very sad to read that UCLA, one of America’s most famous instiutions of higher education, has taken to censoring books that might offend jihadist bigots.

    Image result for book ban

NB – Were it only immature and largely ignorant ‘students’ who caused the trouble, no surprise.

But in fact the real guilt is the dereliction of duty on the part of the UCLA Administration!

    The author tells us –

“Finally a rep from UCLA did step in–to abet the student protestors. My book was “inflammatory.”

    It had to go.

    Related image

Thus: at a panel about freedom of speech and growing threats to it – not least from Islamists – UCLA students and school administrators tried to ban a book that highlights the importance of free speech, the persistent failure to confront Islamic totalitarianism, and that movement’s global assaults on free speech.

In any college, anywhere, this would be shameful.

But to add to the level of absurdity of a place of learning banning books, guess in which part of UCLA this occurred?

    The Law School!

What kind of law do they learn, or teach, in there? The same sort that’s in vogue in Tehran?

    A sorry, sordid story.

But then it was very sad here in Jakarta to read – not so very long ago – that Gramedia, one of Indonesia’s most famous publishing companies, did more or less the same thing.

In levels of culpability, of crass betrayal of the basic principles of free expression, I suppose both UCLA and Gramedia are as bad as each other.

But in terms of any lack of shame,  or in terms of indifference to historically embarrassing parallels, I’d have to say Gramedia are by far the worse.

Nowhere in the report from UCLA… …http://thehill.com/blogs/pundits-blog/education/319100-ucla-banned-my-book-on-islam-from-a-free-speech-event

… can I find any indication that their censorship took the same form as that used by Hitler’s Nazis…

I admire your persistence how you find all kinds of ways to link the Gramedia book-burning to other religious intolerance around the world.
Do you think anyone in Gramedia management will ever have the integrity to issue an apology?
      Keep it up.

Why Has Ahok Given Kali Jodo An Islamic Deadline?

Blockaded by security forces, strict police control on who goes in or out?

If that were the situation around IslamoNazi HQ in Tanah Abang, decent citizens would cheer.

But while white-shirt FPI thugs remain free to go to and fro around the capital, and have all kinds of fanatics flit in and out of their lair, residents in Kali Jodo must now feel their little neighbourhood is in a state of quarantine.

    kalijodo Kali Jodo by night

Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama said dozens of police officers and soldiers have been deployed to seal off Kalijodo, in a move to put an end to prostitution and gambling business, adding that only residents are allowed to enter….

    • ahok Ahok
    • ————————————–
    • So, Governor Ahok –  nobody except some media calls him by his formal name –  will you now send cops charging into the many five-star hotels in downtown Jakarta where prostitution flourishes?

Do you now genuinely want all prostitution in Jakarta to be eradicated? Was that report last year inaccurate?

Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama is recommending that the city administration legalize prostitution in certain areas…

“Legalizing a prostitution site would be a solution because no matter how hard we try, we will never be able to eradicate prostitution. It will always exist as long as humans exist.”    Pelacuran Dimana? One Law for the Rich!

It’s painful to have to put such questions to a man whom I have often offered the strongest support when he’s been harassed by Islamist bigots.

Jakarta Jew-Haters Boo Chinese Christian Candidate

But I have to. And ask again…

Or is this jackboot jive only playing against poor people?

Yes, we did ask that same question last week – Kali Jodo – Think Again, Ahok! Why Delight IslamoNazis? – but another new and very odd aspect to Ahok’s action emerges from the Jakarta Globe report.

He has refused to reveal an exact date for the eviction, but promised it will be held before the capital welcomes Organization of Islamic Cooperation member states for an annual summit next March.

    •  OIC  – The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) (formerly Organization of the Islamic Conference)  – new name, but just the same sectarian censorship ambitions!
    •  ——————-

What’s the OIC got to do with it? Their delegates are unlikely to go anywhere near KJ. They’ll be comfortably lodged in five-star hotels downtown!

So is Ahok out to curry favour with a body that wages worldwide war on civil liberties?

I just turned to your site to see if you have replied and you have.
      Thank you..
I don’t like what you say in reply but this that you have written today about Ahok and Kali Jodo is something we do agree on so it would be unreasonable for me not to say so.
There is a very large hypocrisy content in many areas of public life in Indonesia and like you I have always thought Ahok was a cut above the rest.
      Now I’m not so sure.
So I find myself asking the same questions you are, and like you am very confused about why Ahok sees the OIC conference as relevant.
I have heard he’s been invited to convert to Islam.
What will the news be next month if or when he speaks at their conference?.

It is a big double standard what is been done in Kali Jodo, eventhough I think the police should stop prostitution which is a great shame on our city.
It is exactly so, all the rich men hiring the hookers in Hotel2 Bintang Lima
We see it every time we go to meet for businis, and the foriegn tourists doing business with businis girls there in the bars.
Why not police them? Just money talking.

Islamist Insanity – ‘He’s Married The Goddess of the South Seas!’

Most of you, like me, lead lives concerned with enjoyment. It may be that you delight in your family, or your job, or sport, or party-going.

    Or all of the above!

Life is short and it’s not a dress-rehearsal – apologies to those who believe in reincarnation, but that’s just how I feel about it.

That’s today’s intro, but here’s something to think about.

    • nature “So the water, the soil, the sun, the air become a composite, energy for the welfare of society without exploitation, because that people obey the law of nature is a certainty.”

Wow! A bit heavy, but harmless, yeah? And anyone who propounds such ideas should not be harassed or hounded for doing so?

    Pause for general agreement. Ooops!

Not in West Java, not even if the ideas come from a senior local government position, like Dedi Mulyadi, Regent of Purwakarta. He’s not only a notable but a thinker, and a writer, and he’s written a book setting forth his thoughts on the nature of life and the universe.

He seems to be a likeable chap.

    Good for him. Or not.

Because ‘some Muslims are uneasy.’ And ‘scholars are fretful.‘   http://nasional.tempo.co/read/news/2015/11/30/058723573/dilaporkan-fpi-ke-polda-begini-reaksi-bupati-purwakarta

So says the local IslamoNazi FPI chief, a ‘scholar’ himself.

The ‘scholars’ mentioned are hardly what normal folk think of as scholars. They are ulema, steeped in Islamist dogma but that’s where their ‘learned’ status stops. But even they don’t usually come out with the sort of rank hogwash we heard from one infamous Islamist bigot.

He has accused Dedi of secretly marrying Nyai Loro Kidul, the legendary Goddess of the South Seas.

Habib Rizieq (left) with the nastiest terrorist convict in the country, Abu Bakr Bashyir

    • Guess who?

Yup, it’s the ‘high priest’ of the FPI, Habib Rizieq!

    •  Hmm…A man could do worse!
    • =================================
    • Although large numbers of Javanese worship her ( and that ticks off the Islamists no end!) she doesn’t appear too often.
    • Like I say, a legend. Locals don’t wear green on the Parangtritis beach, for fear she’ll take a fancy to them and carry them off, into her oceanic domain.

No wonder Dedi’s laughing about that IslamoNazi berk’s babblings!

But here’s where it gets beyond a joke.

In response to complaints from the white-shirt gang, West Java Police are investigating Dedi!

The report will be explored by the Special Criminal investigation team…

Who gives a monkey’s if some Muslims or some Catholics, or Protestants, or Hindus, are uneasy. They should be told to take a chill-pill and grow up!

And if those dogmatic drones, the ‘scholars,’ are in a fret, that’s hardly news at all. The curmudgeonly old (and sadly young) ‘clerics’ spend much of their time seemingly searching for fret-producing issues, and invent them if they can’t find them.

    •  –

    • Dedi’s book, for example, was published long ago, but only now has some sectarian sticky-beak stumbled on it as a whine-excuse.

Nonetheless, when are the relevant authorities going to tell the nasty fanatics who infest this country that wasting police time is not just anti-social, but also a prosecutable offence – or should be.

    • Indonesian_National_Police_General's_Visor_Hat
    • Given the amount of real crime, not least shameless corruption in high places, Indonesia’s Police must have better things to do than investigate sane people just because demented dorks are in a tizzy about a book.

Alas, there is a pool of intolerance in this beautiful archipelago, exemplified by Gramedia, one of the largest publishing companies, which owns many media, including the pretend-pluralist Jakarta Post.

    burning books Gramedia’s Nazi-style book-burning

The management of that collaborationist company grovelled despicably to the most mean-spirited jihadists only a year or so ago, revelling in a Nazi-style public book-burning.

Grovelling Gramedia’s BookBurning Bonanza – Appeasing Fanatics

The book’s ‘crime’ then was the same as Dedi’s book’s now – dissing religion.

Hidup Serigala2 Cantik2 – Besok Rabu, 29th April, Trans TV?

I’m not a big fan of Trans TV, largely because of the frequency of ads, and because they re-run movies too often. How many times can one enjoy Ananconda?

    • ————-

    trans tv

    • But last night, having been out for a pleasant meal at Plaza Semanggi on Friday evening and heading off today for a Sunday jaunt, I stayed home, mostly blog-work, but with the TV on, and, even despite ad-breaks, managed to enjoy SWAT.

Better still, I caught a glimpse of a preview of their Wednesday ( 29 April ) show, Dag Dig Dut, a dangdut music spectacular with many of my fave stars, including –

    …Zaskia Gotika…

    Dewi Persik…

    …and DUO SERIGALA – The She-Wolf Duo!

They’re all sexy songstresses, exemplifying the dangdut spirit.

But given the appalling treatment meted out to the last-named, a totally disproportionate reaction to a bit ( well, maybe two bits!) of harmless fooling around –Kasihan Duo Serigala – Sexy Singers Hounded by Fanatics!  – I am currently both sympathetic towards and interested in that pair!

You can read both my previous posts –  – but a recent news item indicates the mind-set of media monitors here -like the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI) which went slightly berserk after the dynamic duo appeared on Trans’ Late Night Show.

I give the raw Google Translate version, which is even funnier than if I were to tidy up the English.
In a letter numbered 343 / K / KPI / 04/15, KPIs provide Written Reprimand on Trans TV for this program….
In the KPI assessment, as written on the official website on Friday (10/4), bouncy attractions dribble that shook erotic chest while singing did not pay attention to norms of decency and morality prevailing in society, as set out in the Code of Conduct of Broadcasters and Broadcast Program Standards ( P3 & SPS) KPI in 2012.
In this program, the rocking motion dribble close-up views. This attraction exploit the chest by bending the chest into the audience, so it looks cleavage.   http://palingaktual.com/1605829/tampilkan-duo-serigala-goyang-dribble-tengah-malam-kpi-tegur-trans-tv/read/

I read this during Sunday breakfast preparations – darn near dropped the plate laughing!

Yes, it is funny, but that was a late-night show, so how come all the fuss?

    The KPI’s sticky-beak priggishness is notorious –

Ramadhan Buttocks Ban – Jakarta TV Decree Decries Thighs Too!

    – we’ve covered it before, focusing on its sectarian slant, after their Chairman, Judhariksawan, told the JP that the KPI was cooperating with the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) to monitor television shows on every network…

    • “During Ramadhan, the KPI and MUI will not hesitate to force shows off the air if we find they have the potential to affect people devoted to carrying out religious activities in the holy month!”
    • oooooooo
    • censored-boobs-300x199 Does cleavage ‘affect people devoted to carrying out religious activities?’ Surely not if they take their religion seriously!
    • ooooooo
    • Despite such nonsense, this is not (yet) the Islamic Republic of Indonesia.

That Google Translation is hilarious. I cant believe the KPI said anything so laughworthy.
You are on good form these days, Ross. But we need more Indonesia posts like this.
The international news you write about is interesting, but doesnt Jakarta have enough stories to keep you busy and us amused?

Thanks, JazPen, but I post on Indonesian news three or four times a week. It’s a wide world out there, so many good stories deserve my attention. I’m just about to publish on another local issue!
        Keep up the comments!

Heheheheh… so funny but you are true in what you say about the KPI.

They force good tv show to stop in Ramadan because they are thinking this is already Iran or Arab Saudi.
Very funny at first but very bad and sad what kind of country we get with this KPI that is same like FPI, so very intoleran….
