Now Actors Need An Ethnicity ‘Panel?’
Maureen Lipman’s bizarre response to the casting of Helen Mirren as Golda Meir is downright bizarre.
I use that adjective more than I like to, these days…
.
.
…but there is so much that is bizarre in the media.
“The Jewishness of the character is so integral,” says Lipman.
“I’m sure she will be marvellous but it would never be allowed for Ben Kingsley to play Nelson Mandela.”
Why not?
A good actor can play any role – I played an agitator in our high school production of Wilder’s ‘Our Town…

..and if Kingsley had no objection to playing a man who disgracefully hid his true Communist identity for years… |
South African Communist Party Claims Mandela Was On Their Central Committee!

… then any physical dissimilarity could be remedied by the application of ‘black-face.’
It worked perfectly well for Olivier…
….when he played Othello!
And for the very popular Al Jolson, though I admit Justin ‘Pretty Boy’ Turdo did bring it into disrepute!
Har-Har-Har! Turdo Grovels To Multicult Whiners!
Would Meir have wanted such a discriminatory casting policy!?!
Who knows?
Suppose there’s a film to be made about other greats of Jewish origin?
That outstanding American patriot, Barry Goldwater?

Or that admirable British imperialist, Disraeli?
Or Mr. Netanyahu?
And not just people held in high regard!
How about villainous Jews like Soros…

France did not violate George Soros’ rights by convicting him in 2002 of insider trading…
…whose role might be filled splendidly by whoever played Sauron in the Tolkien films?
