‘Fesyen Modest!’ That Offensive ‘Modest’ Label Hits Jakarta!

Remember Suryadharma Ali, President SBY’s Minister of Religious Affairs…

    =

    Ali1

    =

….and one of the most intolerant Islamists in Indonesia?

    =

    =

We used to feature him regularly on this blog, his outlandish bigoted outbursts against harmless minorities…

Good Indonesians Denounce ArchBigot Ali’s Latest Intolerant Outburst

But aside from his nasty prejudices against Muslims who dissented from his own dogmatic doctrines, he could make people laugh too, with odd-ball rants like this – viz.

The Beat, Jakarta, 29th March 2012 –  Indonesia’s powerful Religious Affairs minister, Suryadharma Ali, has declared that miniskirts are pornographic and should be banned under tough new anti-porn laws.

Appointed by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono earlier this month to run the new task force into pornography, Ali told reporters in Jakarta yesterday that a set of universal criteria must be decided. He added that, “one criteria will be when anyone is wearing a skirt above the knee.”

    -####################################

Any normal person who reads such hogwash would laugh, because there is obviously nothing ‘pornographic’ about miniskirts, and in any event a lot of skirts that reveal knees are NOT miniskirts!

But although such drivel is not heard from the current Religion Minister, who tends to be fairly rational in his statements, his predecessor’s offensive mind-set seems to be alive and well in today’s Jakarta.

      Very much agree!
Nice work, Ross. I wish more people called out this so-called ‘modesty’ for the mis-label it is.

My colleagues in Jakarta ( Indonesian and Muslim all ) never wear jilbabs and seldom wear skirts down to their ankles.
But they are all decent respectable women and if anybody said they wern’t they would get told off faster than a speeding bullet.
The way these exhibitions are called ‘Modest Wear’ is an insult to all normal women all over the world who are not ashamed of their ankles, knees, calves and hair.
It is good to hear a voice raised against the arrogance of the Arabization of Indonesia.

Suryadharma Ali would love the fesyen modest because it is propaganda for his style of religious fanatic beliefs.

It is a big insult to us for them to say the arab clothes are modest like if our normal Indonesia dress and skirt are not.

Good Muslim Minister Warns Off IslamoNazi Hoodlums – BUT!

A pleasant day near done, an enjoyable visitor from mid-morn till afternoon, then a walk to the warteg where perkadel awaited me in abundance.

Now savouring a gin and root-beer (seriously – experimental evening) while I wait for that new TV series ‘Wayward Pines,’ much promoted –  but will it live up to expectations?

Good to hear a bit of sense from Indonesia’s Religious Affairs Minister, Lukman Hakim Saifuddin. His predecessor, Suryadharma Ali, was such an intolerant fanatic that he became a regular fixture on this blog of ours.

Good Indonesians Denounce ArchBigot Ali’s Latest Intolerant Outburst

ali heretical typically asinine Ali rant

Lukman, a rational human being, is not so headline-grabbing a character, but deserves regular mention for the welcome contrast to ArchBigot Ali.

Anyway, Lukman has urged Indonesian Muslims to keep a cool head over a recent Prophet Muhammad cartoon contest in the United States.

    ============

    main-lukman-hakim4 Lukman

“All Muslims should not be overly provoked by the activity and conduct violence….That is not part of Islamic teaching.”

    ————–

    • fpi kill busddhist

Pity Lukman’s interpretation of those teachings has not yet percolated into the benighted brains of Indonesia’s IslamoNazis!

    ======================

Lukman said that Muslims were at liberty to voice their opinions about the offending contest through public dialogue. “Muslims can protest in civilized ways because Muslims do not react through brutality or other improper ways.”

    Good for him!

The minister also urged non-Muslims to understand Islamic teaching forbids representations of the Prophet, and added that the contest was not appropriate.

Yes, and Islamic teaching also forbids the consumption of pork and the drinking of beer. I do both, as often as time and money permit. That’s my business and if it offends others, tough – I don’t make them join in.

I don’t draw either respectful or rude pictures of Lukman’s Prophet. It wouldn’t occur to me to spend my time doing so, but if other non-Muslims do, then it’s up to them.

They are not Muslims, so are in no way obliged to abide by ‘Islamic teachings.’ And Muslims are not obliged to look at any drawings they deem ‘inappropriate!’

So no offence need be taken.

Under no circumstances should cartoonists be penalised, never mind be physically harmed. Peaceful protests by those who don’t like their work would be entirely in order. Pig-ignorant calls for beheading etc. should be an arrestable offence.

Muslims, if any ( unlikely) there be any who wish to draw ‘blasphemous’ pictures, may of course expect penalties, but only in terms of a ban from religious activities, like attending mosques or getting imams to solemnise weddings or funerals.

Of course it goes without saying that there cannot be any legal/criminal proceedings against them in any democratic society.

    And another thing!

Pak Lukman reminds us that “Muslims believe they must not visualize their prophets because pictures can never fully capture these figures.”

    NB  – PLURAL! Prophets.

    ipad-art-wide-jesus-2-420x0

Muslims have several, including Nabi Isa, better known to Christians as Jesus!

A Statue of Jesus Among the Rubble in Temanggung Image of Jesus, vandalised by Islamist savages in Temanggung, Central Java, 2011

So if we create likenesses of Christ, like Slavador Dali’s famous picture, are we then going to have to put up with MORE  childish tantrums?

    • —-
    • What about those magnificent paintings that depict God Almighty? Are we to shut down our great art galleries for fear of hurting hyper-sensitive feelings?

It really is about time that we heard the last of all this uptight stuff about ‘hurt feelings.’

    \

Being offended is part of life.

I referred recently to the ill-mannered baggages who refused to shake my hand, covering their own hands with various pieces of cloth, to avoid the abhorrent touch of my haram skin!

Much of my social life involves Muslims, and they agree with me there is no Islamic teaching that requires such primitive rudeness. They recognise that such conduct is grossly and gratuitously offensive.

But I’m a big boy and didn’t threaten to behead the sad bigoted bints. I just felt sorry for their backwardness, and carried on with my day, not even the tiniest tantrum thrown.

To offensive oafs, or oafesses, it’s enough to say –

    Just bloody well grow up!

    http://thejakartaglobe.beritasatu.com/news/religious-affairs-minister-muslims-can-protest-texas-cartoon-contest-in-civilized-ways/

“Muslims believe they must not visualize their prophets because pictures can never fully capture these figures,”

“It’s true that we have the right to express ourselves. However, freedom is not limitless. “Freedom is limited by our responsibility to respect other people.”

Okay, Pak Lukman -make a start by telling those pathetic rude cows who won’t shake hands to lay off the pig-ignorant discourtesy.

     – why get uptight over sad, indoctrinated door-mats?

Hey mister Ross, long time no read. Good article and I entirely agree. Many of my own Muslim relatives shrug their shoulders and say: “I don’t care” when asked about or confronted with these cartoons.

I’m planning to visit Jakarta this August so perhaps we can meet. I’ll keep you posted.

      All the best,

‘Be Respectful,’ Says Blood-Thirsty IslamoNazi…Or Else?

Just in case anyone imagined the IslamoNazi FPI’s intolerance might only be directed at non-Muslims, along comes one of their most notorious leaders to exculpate them from any such accusation.

Ahmad Sobri Lubis, a name well-known to those interested in blood-thirsty hate-mongers, has urged the Indonesian Government to follow the lead of the Malaysian government in handling the Shia.

One would hope that if President Jokowi has a list of countries whose example he might wish to follow, Malaysia would be somewhere near the bottom of the hundredth page.

It’s a frightful nest of bigotry, where Islamist intolerants have even claimed, and been granted by the highest courts, the ‘right’ to dictate to other creeds how they may address their prayers to God Almighty.

A vile place. source of many posts here on RRA, like this one – Pig-Ignorant Primitive – No Shariah On MH17, So God Killed 200 Innocents?

But Lubis takes a different view.

“Malaysia is more advanced than Indonesia in terms of decisiveness towards the Shia. Malaysia banned the Shia with the assertion of Malaysia as a Sunni Muslim country. Well, this should also be imitated in Indonesia, “said Sobri.

He was speaking at a ‘religious’ rally in Abu Bakr Siddiq Mosque in East Jakarta, just this past Saturday (02/28/2015)

In Indonesia, explained Sobri, the Shia have not been considered a serious problem by the government. Though Sunni-Shiite conflict in Indonesia is increasingly happening in Indonesia.

Yes, incited by ignoramuses, as reported here –

    oooooooooo.

Sobri quoted the affirmation of Indonesia as a country of Sunni Islam as a result of recommendations approved by the Indonesian Muslim Congress (KUII) We covered that event, held in Jogjakarta last month, in a recent post.

“With the hallmark of this assertion, the Shia are to be respectful and not propagate their respective ideologies in Indonesia!”

And if Sobri Lubis thinks you’re disrespectful, best watch out.

Bunuh, bunuh, bunuh,’   – kill, kill, kill,’ he shrieked…urging the murder of the peaceful Ahmadiyah religious minority (video link here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U7RLCXNdKF4 )

Hats Off To Lukman! IslamoNazis Rant At Rational Valentine Comment

    main-lukman-hakim4

    Lukman

    ———–

Hats off to Lukman, Minister of Religious Affairs in 90% Muslim Indonesia!

You know somebody’s said something sensible when he or she is condemned by the IslamoNazi FPI (self-styled ‘Defenders of Islam’) and today we have a splendid story in Merdeka.com – the Minister, Lukman Saifuddin, has expressed respect for those who celebrate Valentine’s Day.

I said only this week that Lukman was light years better than his predecessor.

    ——————————

fpi-menag-4FPI Fuhrer Rizieq with former Minister Ali

    —————–

But that in itself could be seen as damning the man with faint praise, because Suryadharma Ali was an international embarrassment. He was not only bigoted but ludicrously so, with asinine declarations that sought to elevate his own uptight horror at the sight of women’s knees into a universal criterion.  Good Indonesians Denounce ArchBigot Ali’s Latest Intolerant Outburst

No, Lukman is not only an improvement but a breath of fresh air, all the more surprising, perhaps, in that he belongs to the PPP, a party noted for its ‘Islamic’ stance.

But the fresh air of tolerance is anathema to IslamoNazis.

“Religion Minister, but doesn’t understand religious shariah,” shrilled FPI’s Twitter. http://www.merdeka.com/peristiwa/fpi-kecam-menag-lukman-saifuddin-karena-dukung-valentine.html

The white-shirt vigilante gang reckons Lukman shouldn’t make such comments before seeking and finding the facts of Valentine’s Day.

    Which are?

According to their notorious Habib Rizieq, it’s a ‘Free Sex Day.’

    ——————————

    • silhouetee
    • ——————————
    • His revelation may trigger a surge of visitors this evening to bars of ill-repute around Jakarta, but I fear they’ll be disappointed. I think what Rizieq means is that all those teens who exchange cards, flowers and chocolates will respond to such delights by going at it like demented rabbits.

Lukman, unsurprisingly, takes a more rational view. “I never celebrate Valentine’s Day, but I respect those who, in a nice way, do so.”  In other words, he thinks young people are capable of having fun without throwing themselves into orgiastic sex.

Habib is usually wrong but I went into town today (the rainy season had given way to lovely sunshine) and I kept an eye out for misuse of public parks, secluded doorways and alleys  – but alas, now I must report I was unable to spot, let alone join in, any untoward activity.

End of the intolerants’ anti-Valentine uproar, till next year!

Religious Liberty! Lukman Lights a Candle of Hope!

    freedom-of-religion

    oooooooooooooooo

    Well, Hell’s Teeth!

I have long hoped for this news, but to read it, at last, makes this rainy evening seem bright.

The Religious Affairs Minister, Lukman Hakim Saifuddin, comes from an Islamist party, the very same one, PPP, which spawned his predecessor, the oleaginous intolerant, Suryadharma Ali.

    0000000000000000000

    main-lukman-hakim4 Lukman…

… NOT at all like Ali . Ali1

    0000000000000000000000

But since Ali had to step down in a swirl of corruption allegations, Lukman has shown he’s a man of a very different sort. A good bloke, as I called him last Sunday, he’s now promised a new bill of rights for all faiths, even those which under President SBY were horribly persecuted…

    oooooooooooooooooooo

Lukman said the new bill would target the closures and attacks on churches and Shiite and Ahmadiyah mosques…

    http://thejakartaglobe.beritasatu.com/news/minister-promises-bill-protect-religious-minorities/

The current law is a green light to sectarian bigots.

    oooooooooooooooooo

One of the requirements stipulated in the joint decree is for applicants to get the signed approval for their house of worship from the heads of 60 neighboring households of a different faith.

    0000000000000000000000000000

The difficulties experienced in getting these should not be simplistically ascribed to hatred or prejudice – in Bekasi, some years ago, it was learned that some vindictive clerics had told local Muslims to toe the line or they’d be denied funeral services for their kin!

    http://www.thejakartapost.com/news/2010/02/19/religious-mapping-dialogue-needed-end-spats-analysts.html

    oooooooo

masjid-ahmadiyah-depok These Ahmadis were prevented from further prayers in their Depok, West Java, mosque by a simple step – the local authorities expropriated the whole building! Just like Communists, these sectarians!

    0000

In Muslim majority Indonesia, Christian, Shiite and Ahmadi applicants have almost invariably failed to get the required number, while a few cases have been reported in parts of eastern Indonesia, which has a large Christian population, of Muslims not being allowed to build mosques.

And excellent news too that the package should include measures to help Shiite and Ahmadi communities being driven from their homes by mobs of Sunni Muslims — often with the support of the local police.

    • Ahmadiyah burned Koran in Cisalada Koran burning – by Sunni savages in Cisalada, West Java (they also burned the Ahmadis’ mosque and homes)
    • That’s the very issue I posted on earlier this evening, referring to the Lombok Ahmadis, but the Shia in Sampang suffered just as much.

But for all Lukman’ goodwill, he’s still showing a trace of unreality when he goes on to say his ministry would also work with local Islamic clerics — who are often instrumental in inciting hostilities against minority groups — to get them to embrace religious tolerance.

The JG journo is spot on with her comments on who’s usually to blame for intolerance and hostility. Indeed, many of the posts we’ve published on Islamist intolerance around Indonesia have had cause to mention the local chapters of the MUI.

    MUI-Indonesia

His successor as Minister, Lukman, from the same ‘Islamic’ United Development Party, the PPP, has in his first few months in office, shown a seriously sane, refreshing approach to the job, breaking bread with members of persecuted minorities like the Shia and Ahmadiyah.

He called the meeting last night illegal, but his claimed position as chairman is also illegal.”   http://www.thejakartaglobe.com/news/ppp-chairman-suryadharma-refuses-step-office-occupied/

As I recall this oleaginous individual gloating over religious minority citizens submitting to (of course entirely voluntary!) ‘conversion’  – or ‘repentance,’ as the nasty bigots here call it, as if choosing alternative ways of worshipping God Almighty is a sin  – I can only savour the prospect of the cops dragging him out.

But will he maintain his recalcitrant pose long enough for that to come to pass?
