    Next Indonesian V-P – Another General ‘Close To’ Fanatics?

    So Metrotvnews.com tells us that the National Democrat Party has begun to eye TNI Commander General Gatot Nurmantyo as a running-mate for President Jokowi in the next presidential election? The news item adds that Gatot is believed to be able to attract votes from Muslims, especially the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI).

    http://news.metrotvnews.com/politik/nbw36PRb-jokowi-gatot-diyakini-mampu-raup-suara-fpi

    It’s not unusual for high-ranking soldiers in many countries to look at politics as a suitable change of career.

    Think back to Eisenhower and De Gaulle.

    But after the shock many people got when Jokowi decided to share a platform with the FPI’s leader, Habib Rizieq, who openly asserted that Jakarta’s ex-governor Ahok should be put to death for ‘blasphemy…

    ====

    “We encourage the government to process the death penalty for Ahok as soon as possible,” said Rizieq.  http://www.suara.com/news/2016/10/14/134313/

    ========

    Rizieq, far-left, listens contentedly to Jokowi’s speech

    So Has Indonesia Come To This? Paradise Lost?

    ============

    …when instead the President could have confronted that sectarian fanatic, it’s alarming that General Gatot’s alleged ability to win the approval of Rizieq’s thug-gang is seen as a big plus.

    -===

    =======

    “Close to the Islamic community, close to FPI, etc. It is good to fill the space…”  So says a political analyst with  Indonesia Political Review (IPR) who added that Gatot ”is also  close to the scholars!”

    When that word ‘scholars‘ is used here, it doesn’t just mean people who study a lot, or even a little!

    ====

    ======

    It refers to the MUI, the Indonesian Council of Scholars, a frequent source of outlandish intolerance, whose outbursts we’ve covered aplenty.

    • …...

    Who knows if this predicted pairing will come to pass?

    But what’s worrying is the alleged closeness of the country’s top officer with violent, lawless bigots.

    One hopes the assertion is unfounded.  General Gatot Nurmantyo has yet to issue any denial, so far as I know.

    Whatever, it is a matter of public interest, not least in the light of that exculpation of the white-shirt gang reported some months ago, from Indonesia’s top cop, General Tito Karnavian, who praised Rizieq!

    “He was very tolerant actually… FPI is an Islamic organization so very tolerant of other religions,” he added.

    Video Viral, Tito Karnavian: FPI Ormas Islam yang Sangat Toleran

    That assessment of the gang and its leader parked a storm of protest.

    Many good Indonesians, including millions of Muslims, were and are dismayed at the very thought of the FPI or any sectarian cliques having friends in high places.

      Morning Ross.
      Just about to tuck into bacon and eggs so am catching up on your blog. I didnt look in much last week because I was very busy.
      This is a worry.
      I hope the general does make a speech or says something to show everybody he is not close to the FPI. There is a lot of unrest about at the moment.
      All of us need a bit of good news for a change.

    Jakarta Blackout? Top Cop Wants NO News Of ISIS ‘Pranks!’

    National Police chief Gen. Tito Karnavian has called on the public not to overreact to this week’s incident involving an Islamic State flag tied to a fence at the Kebayoran Lama Police station in South Jakarta.http://jakartaglobe.id/news/national-police-chief-calls-for-calm-after-s-jakarta-islamic-state-flag-incident/

    But while there’s a mention of a message attached to the flag, for details of that we need to look elsewhere.

    …the letter also threatened to turn Jakarta into a warzone like Marawi in the Philippines…

     http://m.todayonline.com/world/asia/jakarta-police-find-flag-and-letter-threatening-turn-city-warzone

    Not exactly the first time such warnings from the ISIS rape-gang have been heard here, as we reported quite some time ago.

    But he has not so long ago displayed a laid-back attitude to fanatic gangs…

    It was so depressing when we read those words of his, regarding the notorious vigilante gang as a –

    Tito Karnavian declared that FPI is a community organization that is tolerant.

    According to Tito, their activities like that he attended will get rid of the ugly stigma of the FPI as “radical and militant synonymous with violence and intolerance.”

    Karnavian added that this stigma is maybe applied as a label by the mass media and then influences the public….

    In the light of those comments we reported a couple of months ago, his concerns about public reaction to media telling it like it is about the “TOLERANT” FPI…

    ….

    …….

    …what are we to make of his plan to conceal sectarian incidents, like this week’s, from the people of Jakarta, indeed from all Indonesians?

     The police’s public relations unit has orders not to report similar incidents to prevent a public outcry.

    Would a public outcry against the Islamist danger be such a bad thing?

    Jakarta’s Governor seems readier to trust the people to show sense. Jakarta Governor urges public to be vigiliant (vigilant, actually, but skip the spelling error! )

    Yet a shutdown on news is precisely what Tito appears to have in mind. “I have also instructed my personnel, not to reveal such incidents to the media….” Tito said.

    Maybe he has worries about how much of the media here behaves.

    Indonesia’s Top Cop Calls IslamoNazi Gang ‘Very Tolerant!’

    Today, 23rd January, and tomorrow, the 24th, are the respective anniversaries of my departure from the Old Country and my arrival here in Jakarta, a major change in my not uneventful life.

    whatever__i_love_indonesia_by_NOF_artherapy

    ——

    Happy for most of the many years spent here, I have come to love Indonesia, and so news like that below saddens me – but even so, it needs to be widely reported.

    ooooooooooooooo

    Remember these fellows!

    Well, we have often wondered why Indonesia’s Police don’t crack down on the sectarian thugs.

    But now we know!

    Indonesia’s TOP COP, General Tito Karnavian, regards this notorious vigilante gang as a

    ‘VERY TOLERANT MUSLIM COMMUNITY ORGANISATION.’

    This fascinating analysis of an infamous hoodlum outfit comes courtesy of Fajar.co.id.

    I add below some of their report since many of you won’t have the Indonesian language skills to follow what the country’s senior policeman says on the video which has indeed become viral here.

    ———-

    There are a lot of criticisms can be made of the media here -esp the leftist English-language Jakarta Post whose parent company, Gramedia, has notoriously collaborated with the most intolerant Islamists in Indonesia.

    ——-

    Other local media often display bigoted bias perhaps almost unaware of it.

    They use the grotesque word ‘tobat’ when some innocent religious dissenter knuckles under and ‘converts’ to Islam.

    ‘Tobat’ means ‘repent’ so the fat-head journos who use it are creating the impression among their readers that, by abandoning their beliefs, these poor folks are giving up sin!

    And I’ve noted the crass anti-Israel slant in TVOne elsewhere.

    But with the FPI, the media don’t really need to write very much.

    The crude cowardly bullying, the vicious violence, their mean malignance

    ….all you need to show are photos like those above.

    Although there have been plenty of factual accounts which you may easily locate by checking out the quotes in our hundreds of posts on the IslamoNazis.

    Just put FPI in our search box over to the right.

    But first let’s continue to listen to the man entrusted with nationwide prevention of malignant thuggery.

    “But in reality, I understand, because I have long talked with FPI friends  and had many conversations with their high imam (Rizieq).” said Karnavian….

    Well Done, Tito Karnavian – Collaborationist Cops Slapped Down!

    It’s fair to say some of us have been concerned by the behaviour of Indonesia’s National Chief of police.

    So Has Indonesia Come To This? Paradise Lost?

    But Tito Karnavian deserves a round of applause for telling two local top cops to back off from their seeming endorsement of a fatwa issued by the notorious fanatics of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI).

    “I have firmly warned the Bekasi Police chief and Kulonprogo Police chief.  I warned them because it’s not permitted to issue circulars based on an MUI fatwa…”

    Hasil gambar untuk tito karnavian Tito Karnavian

    —–

    “…an MUI fatwa is not statutory law that should be upheld. [The police] should not issue circulars that could become a legal document,” he added.

    This is most welcome!

    All too often in recent years we have read of the self-styled ‘scholars’ of the MUI using the police to enforce their opinionated outbursts.

    Bekasi Police reportedly issued a circular on Dec. 15 while Kulonprogo Police released a circular on Dec. 17, in which both instructed owners and management of businesses not to force their employees to wear Christmas attributes.  http://www.thejakartapost.com/news/2016/12/19/police-to-revoke-circulars-on-mui-ban-on-christmas-attributes.html

    The MUI, as we keep reminding readers who may not be familiar with their record, are a benighted bunch, and again we offer examples to substantiate this description –.

    It was MUI’s Deputy Chair, Ma’aruf, who kindly advised everyone that FGM is a ‘human right!’

    Clearly accepting moral guidance from such people is ill-advised, let alone allowing such extremists to lay down the law.

    Bekasi Police, alas, operate in a community infamous for its intolerance.

    …and here – ‘Off With His Head!’ – Jakarta Cops – No Sweat on Murder Threat!

    As for the situation in Kulonprogo, I simply don’t know and need to check it out. Jogjakarta used to have a good reputation for religious tolerance, but recently…?

    Jakarta Fanatic Rally – Traffic Havoc – Top Cop Speaks Up!

    Good to hear Indonesia’s top cop has pledged to prevent the Islamist fanatics implementing their nasty anti-social scheme to create traffic havoc.

    General Tito Karnavian denounced the notorious sectarian extremist Habib Rizieq’s statement, which said the Dec. 2 protesters would carry out Friday prayers across the capital’s two main roads, namely Jl. MH Thamrin and Jl. Sudirman.

    http://www.thejakartapost.com/news/2016/11/21/police-to-ban-use-of-jakartas-main-roads-for-dec-2-rally.html

    Curiously, the Jakarta Post reporter didn’t explain to JP readers about Rizieq, whom they described merely as a ‘spokesman’ for the GNPF-MUI  – that’s the recently organised ‘National Movement to Save the Indonesian Ulema Council’s Edicts…

    Oh, and –

    Edicts, BTW,should have been left in its original, untranslated form, FATWAS

    If you want to know more about the Indonesian Ulema Council’s fatwas,then you can flick through our search box and chortle at the absurd yoga ban, and shudder at their awful habit of running to the police to back up their dogmatic intolerance.

    Of course here in Indonesia, everyone knows that, but overseas readers should not be left in the dark about the true nature of the forces of darkness!

    Tito said if demonstrators insisted on holding their rally on those roads, the police would disperse them and act firmly to anyone who opposed the police.

    GOOD!

    Muslims can like everyone else, pray at any time, and in any place. I had a very nice Muslim colleague in London, who would pray in our staff smoking room. No problem.

    But we have seen both here…Jakarta – Top Cop Slams Traff-Islamic-Jams   … and in Western countries…Paris ban on Muslim street prayers comes into effect – BBC News… examples of irresponsible crowds brazenly and needlessly obstructing  public roads and footpaths.

    General Tito talks sense too about how to handle amok-runs, like that seen in Jakarta on 4th November.

    Violent protesters would be charged with articles 212 to 218 of the Criminal Code (KUHP) on attacks against public officials.
