Having made friends here in Jakarta with people of both Japanese and Chinese ethnicity, I’d say Einstein was wrong.

But are there calls now for Einstein’s monuments to be toppled?

One hopes not, for inaccurate perceptions of other races’ qualities has nothing to do with why he was, and still is, honoured with statues.

Einstein’s distinction rests on his intellectual prowess.

Just as Captain Cook’s role in the history of The Lucky Country is honoured not for what he thought about Aborigines but for his great voyage of exploration which resulted in the discovery of what was previously regarded as Terra Incognita.

I vaguely recall her from 1970, when she had a hit, Band of Gold, not bad, but does that make her a celebrity? Much the same can be said for another past-it actress, from a long-discontinued series, Loretta Swit.

Michael Urie?-another actor who has referred to himself as “a member of the LGBT community.” 

As for B D Wong – I assumed he might be related to the notorious Australian lesbian socialist Penny Wong,  after learning that B D  donates his time and resources to a number of LGBT and arts-related charities,

But apparently not.

The singlet in question bore an admirable exhortation, urging those who don’t love  Australia to leave!
