Gramedia's Book-Burners Still Face IslamoNazi Rage – Appeasers Never Prosper!

  Gramedia’s Bonfire of Shame

=

One might have thought that somebody in Gramedia management would have read enough 1930s European history to be familiar with the results of appeasement – but then history never exactly repeats itself.
Back then it was the Nazi book-burners who were being appeased, whereas this week in Jakarta it is the book-burners of Gramedia who tried to appease the IslamoNazis, and it doesn’t seem to have worked!

And who will shed a tear for the craven Wandi Brata and his colleagues if the FPI’s white-shirt storm-troops do indeed lay siege to their plush HQ in Palmerah, not far from my daily commuting route, as they promise they will, around noontime today.
INILAH.COM reported yesterday that the Front Pembela Islam (‘Defenders of Islam’) will stage a mass rally at Gramedia’s building to protest the company’s publication of that book that’s got their white robes in a twist.“Tomorrow we will demo to Gramedia!”
That’s the word from FPI’s Jakarta Gauleiter Novel Mu’min, though he added that their kindred fanatic spirits in the FUI (Indonesian Umat Forum) will be handling the administrative coordination, FPI  providing back up only.they expect ‘at least a thousand, maybe up to five thousand.’
But why?
Gramedia only a day or so ago crawled on their corporate belly to beg forgiveness from the sectarian zealots.

Hundreds of those offending books were ceremonially incinerated, under the smug but ever-watchful eye of MUI luminaries, those self-styled ‘scholars’ who issue endless idiotic fatwas – like the one condemining Ahmadiyah as ‘heretics’ – and who revel in the thought of female circumcision!
So why is it that FPI will definitely continue to sue the publisher of the book”Five Cities That Ruled the World ‘by Douglas Wilson.“They did well after the insult – boom! Books bought, bought by enemies of Islam and liberals – so they just ask for forgiveness. We do not want to let insult after insult to our religion continue to happen,” said Novel.
He’s probably right, as books that get deplored, condemned, and even better, burned, will sell faster than they otherwise would.
I imagine Salman Rushdie’s Satanic Verses would be mouldering in corner shelves had that old cretin Kohmeini not issued a fatwa, and I know for sure people were out this week trying to get hold of a copy before the bigots had it hauled back to Gramedia’s funeral pyre for freedom of expression. Not me – I’ll just ask somebody in Oz to get me a copy!
Besides, the white-shirts were quick off the mark.
Depok’s Book-Hater
=
Gatra.com reported yesterday from Depok (West Java, of course!) just across the city limits, that the local Gauleiter there, one Habib K. Al-Gadri, had his goons out sweeping the nearest branch of Gramedia, on Jalan Margonda, Depok, because there is information that the bookstore was still displaying the book which was considered insulting to Islam.“We want to make sure it is not for sale in Depok,” said Habib on Wednesday. He added that sweeping was a form of lesson for anyone who tried to harass the religion of Islam and Prophet Muhammad “We went to look at the store and indeed it did not have any book that disturbs Muslims.” Al-Gadri  appealed to Muslims, ‘if you find a book that insults Islam, then immediately destroy it. “Do not let it provoke riots!”
It is all so disheartening.
I am never surprised by any display of Islamist ignoramus activity any more, but surely, surely, surely, those Gramedia clowns, who probably consider themselves as educated men, if not exemplars of Indonesia’s intelligentsia, could have shown just a wee mite of grit. If they lacked the guts to go to court and defend themselves against the IslamoNazi law-suit,( an admittedly human reaction, given what’s just happened to Alex in Sumatra- see next post today ) they might at least have just quietly pulled the book and let it go.
Of course I’m not alone in my disgust. Decent Indonesians share the sense of indignation anyone with a brain must feel. The Jakarta Post yesterday reported one such.
——-
A lecturer from Driyarkara School of Philosophy, B. Herry-Priyono, said the publisher should have scrutinized the translation of the book before publishing it but its decision to burn the books was excessive.

Recalling the book should have been enough but the publisher chose to bow to the FPI’s demands, Herry said. “The FPI is no more than a group of tribal thugs that use any means to have its demands met and the police usually do nothing,” he said, adding that if this continued to happen, the radical group would be more demanding.

——
As of course has happened, already.

BURNING BOOKS?
HOW CONTEMPTIBLY SYCOPHANTIC CAN GRAMEDIA GET!
I hope the FPI gives them HELL today!
They deserve each other!
Note- I’m posting this 5am Jakarta time, as breakfast times recently have been subject to connection difficulty. So some of you will be reading it on Thursday. But the demo is Friday noon!
