“Ehhhh…..Puto!” Hey, FIFA, Lay Off The Mexicans!
More nonsense from FIFA, which is reportedly going after Mexico because their supporters chanted –
‘Ehhh…Puto!’
-during the game last week which saw their team beat Germany 1-0.

I was previously unaware of the term. I don’t speak more than a few words of Spanish.
It seems it means ‘faggot’ depending on the context, and when one side’s fans are yelling it at the other side’s keeper, it is reasonable to assume the context is derogatory.
==========
It has, after all, always been quite common among non-maladjusted men to award such insults to any other men whose behaviour, or manner, they find displeasing.
..the word “puto” translates into English as “coward” or “male prostitute,” but it can also be interpreted as a derogatory term towards gay people..FIFA Investigating Alleged Gay Slur
Those who chanted thus probably did not truly believe the keeper was some sort of mincing queer.
No big deal!
But lo…
Again, I was previously unaware that FIFA had quite recently installed an ‘anti-discrimination’ bureaucracy…

…which has now been wheeled out to PUNISH the naughty Mexicans.
What a waste of time, money and effort!
Who the hell cares what footie fans shout?
I recall 1960s Scots fans roaring out a chorus of –
‘Where’s Your Handbag, Where’s Your Handbag?’
– at the late England hero Bobby Moore, which these days would no doubt have the pink knickers of FIFA’s gaystapoid inquisition all twisted…

….if not ready for the washing machine!
It was also in the Sixties – yes, I took more interest in soccer back then – that North Korea played Russia at an English stadium, and, in the absence of more than a few dozen resident North Koreans, the largely English crowd spontaneously chanted –

I remember that ‘wong’ chant, and your recollection is completely correct, Brits cheering on the under-dog. Most of us also laughed about the jibes against Bobby Moore too. He never got upset, did he?
He understood that fans were out to have uninhibited fun, to feel free to scream and shout whatever they liked.
People in those days had a sense of humour.
Now all that we see and hear is a sense of grievance and self-righteousness.

I used to be taken as a treat, many years ago, to Celtic-Rangers games.
The chants were shocking, at both ends of the park.
Nobody fainted or sat down on the muddy terrace to write letters of complaint to the SFA.
Supporters of Celtic just shouted back even more abuse, of Protestants, in response to their appeals for the Pope to have anatomically impossible tyings done to him.
Everybody went home feeling much better.
Football matches are not meant to be a safe-space for snowflakes. FIFA are making themselves even more disreputable than they did in other ways in the past few years.

The Mexicans have since been fined for this harmless chant.
FIFA is no more than the soccer wing of the gaystapo.
